Horn issue on a 68 SS

Quakes 454

Ok so horns work when jumped from positive battery terminal. Relay hot leeds are powered. From there my experience ends as I don't know how the further test the relay. Where do I go from that point? Thanks

Horns are activated with a ground. The steering wheel pad grounds to the column. Check all of your grounds. Also, is your relay circuit hot?

The two screw terminals on the relay are hot...... horns and relay have a good ground.thatsbas gat as I've gone

Check the continuity of the ground wire between the horn relay and horn button but first ground out the horn terminal to the body, do the horns blow?

Yup. If the horn blows it is a wiring issue from the column to the relay. If it does not, check the continuity from the column to the relay. If goo then you have a bad relay.

I disconnected the wire from terminal A and grounded the terminal with a jumper to a good ground. The relay is clicking no sound though. Should I be jumping the wire from A terminal to ground to get the horn to sound?

Sounds like to me the relay is not working right. It has basic contacts inside, you can try to take the relay apart and clean the contacts. BUT... if you are not getting a ground from the column you have another issue. Also, is the relay grounded to the body while making these test and is the ground connection clean?

Yes I tested the continuity between the relay mount and ground and that was ok. Now the wire that I disconnected from terminal A, what does that feed?

Terminal A comes from the column. It is a simple system. Horn pad pressed creates a ground and relay activates connection for horn to blow.
