My 69 project

I remember when mine was in this stage. Thought I’d never get it done. Just keep plugging away. Good job getting your kid/kids involved they will remember it for a lifetime.
When I really started to get into what I thought was going to be a quick fix turned into this. Don’t know why but I just started googling Chevelle things and stumbled onto ocs. Started my project and ever since it has become another addiction as you know both good and bad. This build has and is taking many paths but in the end I hope the stay with as much original as I can or can get close. Most everything is here but has to be looked at. Most of this original stuff is frame, suspension, and body. I’m trying to document everything and and as much information as I can pertaining to this 1969 Chevelle. As I worked on my build at the ocs I learned a lot and more about research before posting. Then I caught a glimpse of a member here who had a link to this site well being. Chevelle junky now I had to check it out. I like the idea and the guys are helpful, lots of good knowledge about Chevelles (and keeping up with current topics). I thought I would add my build project and do both sites. Still might but find posting gets hard time wise but here I am. Thanks for following I hope to add more new progress along with more of the start of the build.

Still have to finish up a few more things with the rear. These are some pictures of the process. Also picture of old and new gasket. Put a gasket sealer and a new gasket on. I may paint once more.

Nice work on the rear. Noticed it started out as a 2.56 gear, is that what's in it?
Yes, the gears are the same as when I got it. I’m thinking down the road that may change. When I found it I was just looking at it being for a 69 Chevelle and I didn’t realize at the time the gears were that and for a 350 and not a 396. Still going from a 10 bolt. Although the 10 bolt also came from a 69 Chevelle but I know that if my car had the original 12 bolt on the car, my uncle and his friends took one out back in the day. When they bought it they got it for a parts car that I just happen to get ahold of. For now this will give me a chance to run across something. I’m now just going to keep it original unless I’m forced. So much other stuff to get to. Wanting my body back on before September this year. That includes firewall and belly finished. I’ve been all over the place having things plated and my progress slows. I’m waiting on a few more things coming this next week that will help me get hopefully all the front and rear suspension done. Also I replaced two broken windows in the garage door and can roll things out to work on it. Thanks

Yep, totally understand. My 100% original 69 malibu came with the L48/turbo350 and an open 2.56. Car is gone, but I couldn't wait to upgrade to a stout 350/6 speed and 3.55s. Great combo.

I’m hoping to take this weekend off and put together more of the suspension/steering front and back. Throughout this my build has been all over the place making it a slow. Today I got some stuff and Brake Boosters came though again. These bolts, washers, nuts and bracket all got either black phosphate, clear zinc and zinc dichromate. Hope to get more in detail about each as it goes together. In pictures are same original suspension hardware, dust cover bolts and distribution block bracket before sent in and after.

I need to decide between powder or paint on the steering knuckle. I want the paint but both knuckle that came with these disks are powder. The painted one is from the drums.

Going thru boxes yesterday trying to gather up more stuff for the frame/suspension. I found more rear parts bolts, brackets, shocks and some I think undercoating. I put some of things in rust remover to let soak before cleaning with the blaster. Two pieces in the bag have already been cleaned with the blaster but I threw them in anyways. Update later. The shocks I’m assuming are not original and changed when my rear was. I tried to find some info on them and have only came up with the info on the shock. Then what I think is undercoating looks like it may have been rubbery but now is hard and would crack.

Those shocks are replacements. The frame L bracket for the hard/flex brake line connection I believe are different between discs and drums, so check that your flex line fits the hole before you go through all the work of refinish. If you go to a larger front sway bar, those brackets work, "The Parts Place" is the only vendor I know that offers the rubber bushings for the 1 1/8" bar at the frame mounts. Parking brake splice connectors should be bright zinc coated.

Thanks, You just saved me a ton of research and time. Hope someday you get paybacks. As for the plating and finishing of the hardware I’ve been having mike at brake boosters do them. So far they have done most all my brake parts and other hardware. I’ve found that minus my time cleaning which is valuable having my original stuff done cost about the same as ordering new and faster not having to track down every bolt. Which I’ve done but if I ever have to change I’ll have new. Also most new are repo and although it’s close sometimes oxide isn’t phosphate and the such. My problem has been planning. Seems like just when I think I’m going to finish I’ll need something that will put it off. I do have a lot of things just sitting waiting. I don’t know why I like this car or project so much maybe takes me away from my other life and I hope others feel the same. Want to bring smiles to people when life seems so….Back to the topic my sway bar is halfway done I just want to blast is and clean. I want to leave tat bare and coat with Gibbs lubricant. I have bushings that came with my front suspension rebuild kit I haven’t got there yet. When I do I’ll reference back here. I’ll give all the car restorers/mechanics out there credit this is alot of work. I also like this place.

Here is some pictures when I pulled it out to clean. Should be able to locate where and what a lot of parts look like.

Update. Yesterday my uncle and I took a rode trip over to the west side Everett area. A few years ago I got some parts from a nice gentleman. Emblems, vinyl trim and a few other thing. Well got a call saying he was parting with parts. I just picked up everything he had. I haven’t gone through it yet. Also have a 396 block and a few other things not posted.
