Car customizer Gene Winfield

A true Mod-Father of the custom car world, I truly believed Gene would live on forever and I'm truly saddened by this news. He work was iconic and his movie cars were even more well known and with many of his designs sitting in the Petersen Motors Museum in California. His career started early in the 1950's and went on until yesterday. And true to his word he worked his whole life until he died ..... Rest In Peace Gene.

Gene was very active into his 80s and maybe into his 90s. He taught body and fabrication seminars, and always was accessible on his Bakersfield property to display and entertain his work. I believe he moved from Bakersfield several years back, but not positive where to?? He was an occasional guest on the old Jesse James show, there's plenty of film from the past 70 years of his work. I also was one to assume Gene would live forever.

I use to watch a lot of the Jesse James build shows, I probably seen him on there
Maybe but he did stuff on his own if anything Jesse probably learned more from Gene Winfield than the other way around.

He main competition was George Barris the guy who built the Batmobile but GW built a lot of custom cars for TV and the movie's too. If you remember the sci fi movie about the apocalyptic future with a truck that had 3 wheels at all 4 corners of the truck so it would never get stuck that was his build.
The above video shows a bunch of his customs and movie cars. I think you could skip the 1st minute of this video.
