2018 Ford Fusion Not Going Into Gear

My wife' s blue Fusion laid down today. She was backing out of a post office parking place and the electronic shift module would not let the car go into any gear but park, she has the knob shifter. We tried to override the system, would not work. I was an hour away so after talking to the dealer I called a tow truck for her. The guy came in his car, popped the linkage, put it in drive and told her no charge and I picked her up at the dealership. She will drive my car until hers is fixed.

Is there a recall on it? Lisa's Escape had a recall with the shift linkage issue and Dave said it was required to fix a defective part. Took Ford all of 10 minutes to fix it, but they didn't hook up a few sensors when putting it back together, but that's another story.

Nope, bushing broke upon shift rod removal, no big deal. Module is bad, who knows, may be a hidden coverage somewhere but I doubt it.

I believe the shift module is the part with the knob on it, I've had a few issues with them on all models, but nothing chronic.

Fortunately when it failed it was in our small town area, 20 people asked her if they could help. She felt bad blocking traffic but told everyone the car would not come out of park. She was just in the larger city, thank goodness it didn't die there.
Dealer has it in line and I would bet the part is already on order, the Service Manager knows we are old friends with the owners and are good customers. The lead tech came out and asked why I bought the green Excursion? I told him it was cheap :)

Car is back. The shifter grommet on the transmission deteriorated and computer could not determine the gear it was supposed to be in. $4 in parts, $300 labor, the way of the world, electronics.

I believe that was the same thing the recall was for on Lisa's Escape. Took the guy all of 5 minutes to replace it.

$300 labor to replace a grommet that only takes 5 minutes to replace? 😳 well I guess it’s pretty hard to get anything done for what I would think of as cheap anymore

The computer had to be programmed to know positions of the transmission, I know it is crazy. I don't have the receipt in front of me but there were codes in the system for the issue. Evidently the system is very sanative to position.

We arew at $205/hr and among the lowest Ford dealers in the area. The Dodge store next to us is at $250/hr.

Yesterday my Red Fusion did the funky shifting leaving the gas station, I shifted into D and it went back to P. I drove it for the day, got it home and put it in the garage. My wife picked up the bushing and cap from the dealer today .

After replacing 2 bathroom power outlets this evening I started on the car. Easy fix, pull air box out and wait... there is the problem, the securing cap was missing. I pulled the cable off the linkage, popped the bushing out and replaced, popped cable on and installed the retainer cap.

I paid the dealer $300 for the blue car, this one cost me $5.
