I would say replace plastic housing.
I bought that at Advanced a little while ago, I think I have a rad problem, bottom hose is off and rad still shows full?Get a MotoRad fail-safe thermostat. If it fails, it stays open !

This is the Tstat kit I bought, just ran back to the parts store to get a rad pres tester and forgot my wallet, guy gave it to me anyway 
Im not sure if that will unblock the rad for now but I'm pretty sure it needs a new rad, truck has 73,568 miles what a bunch of shit

The muck is a ledge that I thought was coolant, passage is off to the side lol, new vehicles irratate me with silly shit and why I hate working on them

One thing to remember about newer cars is air pockets are everywhere, that is why I bought a vacuum fill system.
Yeah this took what seemed like forever slowly filling the rad waiting for air to escape, I finally shut the hood around 12:30 last night and checked it again a little while ago, I bought this truck in 09 and never knew it had a coolant dip stick
