The new game-changing Chrome paint - NeoChrome spray application and topcoat

The rear bumper on the Starfire has rust through damage at the brackets that mount to the bumper. It's a design flaw that allows dirt and debris to collect and then it stays moist and rusts through over time. I refused to spend $3k to have the bumper fixed and rechromed and was going to just clean it up the best I could and let it go, but I saw this video and was so impressed I plan on fixing the rear bumper myself (cut an weld steel in), and then use the NeoChrome to recoat the bumper. I finger it'll take less than 16 oz to recoat 2 to 3 times and that cost is about $200, so I can justify that for resale of the car.

Wow that's really nice, my ex wife worked in a chrome and anodize shop in the early 80's when black chrome first came out, this chrome paint is a real game changer and could put a hurting on the plating prices, IMHO EPA helped drive plating prices up and EPA is what shut Florida Plating down PS I use to get all the chrome plating and anodize work I wanted for Free 👍🙂 Oh but nothing the size of a bumper, MC parts

I think this chrome paint as long as its applied correctly wont peel like a bad chrome plating job will either, last chrome plating job I had done was in 2006 or 07? I had a friends SIL that worked in a local plating shop that's known for doing great plating on boat parts, he worked as a polisher, I met him and his boss showed them my original 1972 Harley lifter blocks that were originally painted black, I wanted them chromed, boss said $200 to chrome and $300 for Show chrome, friends SIL spoke up and said "I'll polish them on my own time for the Show chrome" so $200, before I even finished building the bike the back edges of the lifter blocks peeled up but the engine was completely assembled and in the frame with gas tanks mounted, engine would need to come out and heads pulled to get the lifter blocks off so I left it alone, when you chrome paint the bumper I'd also paint the backside with an alum color or silver paint, I didn't paint the backside of my repop bumpers but probably should have

I'm kind of skeptical of that.
If you can repair and prep your bumper where all the shop has to do is chrome plate it ?
That's what I would do.

Not going to piss money away that won't give me a return. Even in the best shape with fresh paint, the best I can hope for is around $30k. I'll have $15k into the car (including the purchase), so I want to maximize my return.

This car was an investment, never something I was going to keep.

Maybe not an option for more obscure cars but I’ve heard great things about the repop bumpers. Not concourse quality, but these cars were not concourse quality when they left the show room. I think I saw $260-300 (IIRC) for a Chevelle bumper and from Summit, shipping wasn’t bad. I bought one rechromed locally for a few bucks more but I could lay hands on it before I bought, no wait for shipping and it was reportedly an OE bumper so it seemed like a reasonable deal.

The spray chrome definitely interests me but last I looked it was kinda pricy (but not as bad as real chrome) and I hear you have to treat it like paint (scratches easy).

Once price comes down a bit I’ll try it for sure.

Do they make repop bumpers? I’d guess not. Everyone says Tri City is one of the best but not in Kevin’s budget for a flip.

Tri City is nice, but not show chrome. I've used them several times and their product is plenty good for my stuff. They only rechrome, don't sell repop stuff. They're probably around $500 each by now or more. If you're just wanting a nice driver, a repop is probably just fine.

The chrome paint may be an option for interior dash and trim pieces - like the trim on a console.
Plastic plating is hard to find and expensive. I just buy repops and make them work as good as possible.

Nobody sells repops for Oldsmobiles at a reasonable cost. So I can see why Kevin's only option is chrome paint or rechrome his bumpers.
The Taiwanese Company "Golden Star" sells through Speedway Motors on Ebay. I bought both of my bumpers from them and they look great.
I spray painted the backsides of them with aluminum paint as others advised.
The metal thickness is within a few thousandths of stock (I measured them).

Tri City did a great job on my Gold Chevelle's bumpers, I bought repops for a 69 that I had and really never liked them but I did end up selling the original 69 bumpers to Tri City as cores rather than scrapping them.

Both bumpers on my 68 are repops from NPD, I think Golden Star, they're okay since my car isn't a show car just a driver
