Planning a LONG RV Trip

We are thinking about a run to Southern AZ, Grand Canyon, Southern Utah and over the Wolf Creek Pass thru Denver to Rocky Mountain National Park. Yes, we will take the Excursion pulling the camper. I have already started prepping the camper with upgrades and have made plans to do some work on the Excursion. We are planning to do this in a 3 to 4 week timeframe.

Sounds like it'll be fun lots of fun.... who knows we may be out there at the same time. We haven't set a date to go yet, but we will most likely go late spring to early summer.

Our itinerary will be the same as originally planned.... Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon with alot of sightseeing in Arizona.

Sounds super fun ! And I would love to do what your doing. We are discussing a 3-4 day train ride through the country to Wyoming with a 3 day stay and then 3-4 days back. I have thought about an RV Trip though. Id like to buy one but we enjoy doing things around the property and don't think id get long term use out of one. I did recently see there are websites where you can rent peoples personal RVs.

Sounds like a nice road trip. We try to do something like that every year. One year I think we saw the most. Pompay pillar, yellowstone, Grand canyon skywalk, meteor crater, Wolf creek pass , & the final stop for the wife Wall drug. I think we were gone 18 days & drove 5600 miles.

Changed plans already, reserved the last KOA site at the West entrance to Yellowstone.

Now looking at sites in Idaho.

Are you headed to Yellowstone and the Dutton Ranch ?
If you do, say Hi to John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and Rip while you're there.

Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain National Park. On the way out Mt Rushmore and Badlands. Looking at Crater of the Moon National Monument. Trying to reserve Campsites along the way and out West.

Do you have to have a reservation to go to Yellowstone? I heard the Going to the sun road needs one now. We did that one in 19, that's beuatiful.

I had to look up what you were referring to... I don't really watch TV much, but nope, I won't be seeing that, just Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone National Park .

So, been working on the route. A week long drive to Yellowstone via IA,NE, Mt Rushmore, Badlands and through Western ND and Eastern Montana to Yellowstone. From Yellowstone to SE ID. Then to Ft Collins CO and then make our way East. We are leaving some stops open to chance, will have a small inverter generator for Bureau of Land Management sites and other possible boon docking areas. We have made reservations for the major stops.
I think I am avoiding super high passes, no way I am pulling the camper over US 40 at 11,300 feet with switchbacks.

That year we went to Yellowstone with the little motorhome we went through Red Lodge & over Beartooth pass.

I am planning on staying on the Interstate in that area. I am trying to avoid most large cities. Google wants me to go thru Chicago and Minneapolis, NOT!

I've gone through Twin Cities before with the RV but I wouldn't want to do Chicago. Last year the stupid Garmin put us right downtown Billings.
Some of the curves on this road are kind of tight.

I was able to finish up my reservations yesterday, we are going to be staying in primarily State Parks but we do have to stay at 3 KOAs. A majority of the parks are just overnight stays. I love State Parks, they show off the best of what the states have to offer.

Most of the registration systems were straight forward. Arkansas is a really confusing system, Tennessee is not much better. Most of the states use Reserve America.
