ZF 8HP70 transmission swap

You need to watch this entire video. This trans is definitely worth the cost.
I will probably go get one tomorrow for $750. I talked to the guy today and thought I wouldn't try this until I watched the video !

You're getting a good used 8HP trans for $750? 😳 that's a killer deal

I just bought this BMW shifter for $40. All you do is plug the wiring harness into it and mount it anywhere you want.
I'll put mine in the Camaro's console.

You can watch Mike Pagliano demonstrate it here :

I think you could make that look OEM in a Camaro or Chevelle console too, damn I gotta get some projects I have finished around the house first or I'll get myself shot buying more car project stuff 🤣 I think I could get an ok price for my TCI 200r4 trans & freakshow 3,600 stall LU Conv to help offset the price too

The video talks about how you don't need a special converter. The 4.6 1st gear and dual-clutch converter can handle a cammed engine.
And the trans is rated at 516 ft-lbs, but drag racers report it handles 800 torque and up to 1000 hp ! In stock form.
I will need to put a 3.08 gear in the rear to match the trans gearing. The Camaro's 12 bolt has a 3:55 in it now.
I should get the LS3 block back from the shop any day.
LOL this helped , seeing NUGT this morning

Bet you'll have to cut your floor tunnel to make it work in the car.

That pretty trick. I’d be please to just have a 200 or 700r4 but 8 speeds is pretty cutting-edge for our old cars.

Yep and the fact you don't need a slipping torque converter saves $1500 to $2000. It's super efficient and strong.
You have to spend $3000 on a 4L80 to make it just as strong.
And the software lets you adjust the shift points.
For drag racing and hi-performance, it's a no-brainer.
We are at the beginning of the surge in popularity of this trans. I think it would be wise to be patient and buy a good low-mile version and hang onto it for future use.
The controllers and adapters will probably get cheaper, especially if Chinese engineers get into this market.
Right now a "Gen 1" trans is what you need. Gen 2 is the 8HP75, which started in 2019.
Controllers can't control the 75 so the desirable transmissions are getting older and harder to find.

Not sure where you're shopping for TCs, but that number is crazy high. A buddy ran a 4L60 down in the 10 flat range with a 4000lb car. Many passes, no issues, the 4L80 is stronger yet.

I hadn't looked up those TCs, honestly never heard of them. I did a quick lookup over at Summit and what they listed was anywhere from 600 to 1600 for a Hughes. Only have experience with B&M and Freakshow personally.
This guy may give you some ideas how to save a bit, in favor of sweat equity.......

I picked up the trans and torque converter this morning. And as a bonus, met a firefighter who has a trans repair shop as a side business.
The repair shop owner was where I picked up the trans. He had a nice 68 C10 restomod.
We talked for quite a while and I think he wants my 4L80. He also can build my 8HP70 when and if it needs it.

Mike Pagliano from SLG (Seems Legit Garage) told me the MaxxECU control system was what I needed to control my LS3 and 8HP. Right at $2000.
So I have a complete unused Holley Terminator X for controlling an LS I can sell.
