Back-up Power

Hey, you can be a snob too you know..... all the panels are down and ready to go (just finishing mounting the last 12 new panels), and like I said I'd even throw in the ironridge roof mounts (worth another $1.5k).

Anyhow, we have multiple generators, and the one most used is the PTO 16kw, but we have 2 other backups that are dual fuel (gas and LPG).

You know I've been trying to talk Jennifer into Solar. I'm all in. She, not so much. I wanted mine ground mounted like Cat. right now we have TWO 9K Gas Generators and an old 22KW PTO that runs off Jennifer's 200hp tractor. We are getting ready to bury the last remaining power lines on the Property. I'm thinking about at a minimum, running power lines from the barn to the house. That way no matter which way I go, the lines are there.

For a large generator, its suggesting for a "350-foot distance, you will likely need large, potentially parallel conductors (e.g., 2 sets of 500 AL for 700 AMPS or equivalent) to minimize voltage drop. "

Thats a lot of cabling. $3.46 per foot. @ 350' = $1211.00 x4 = $4,844 for cabling. I'm not smart enough to be an electrician

I already sensed Jennifer wasn't sold when we met the first time. I'm going to store the old panels in the back of a steel container and let the kids have them when and if they want them.

I don't use aluminum at all, only copper. More expensive, but it's one and done and I never have to worry about melting the copper or corrosion with aluminum.

22kw 999cc V-twin Generac in a Honeywell box, I installed this Aug 2024 then Oct 2024 it came in real handy, it sucked digging 15'-16' out and 18" down and going under oak tree roots but it had to be a cerain distance from the house and this is were it made sense and passed code, IIRC the cables including control wires was over $400 not counting main panel rewire but it's all automatic and no running cords from the detached garage anymore, it'll even run washer & dryer along with central a/c, we decided to leave the roof alone,,hurricane wounds from hurricane Milton, AND if the AssHats that run this city decide to Turn Off the NG I can get misc gears to make a windmill to run the Genny, Temu has gears 100% off 😆🤣

I just have a 3500W gen. I'd like to have solar but if i did it myself it would probably take me 5 years+ to get it done. Might not be here then, might as well wait for the janitor I guess.
