Drove to the end of the state today, Oregon Inlet Campground, A National campground, dune is out our back window. Truck and camper are dialed it, towed great!

Bought a permit for 4x4 beach access. My daughter and her boyfriend drove down too for a few days. Right now it is raining but supposed to clear out in an hour or so.

You should post a picture so I can really be jealous in 1080i. lol

Pics will be coming, right now we are in the camper resting from the trip over. US64 East to the dead end, turn right on NC 12. Easy directions, no GPS needed.
Hatteras Island ? Oh, I see the "Oregon Inlet Life saving Station." Cool. Going fishing ?

My old business partner owned a place on the Outer Banks, but the last time it flooded he sold it..... when I was in the Marines a buddy and I would go fishing Nags Head, Topsail Island, and a few other places. Never caught much, but good company, and we always came back hammered.

Got a neighbor that has a place on surf city, we would all go down for an extended weekend and surf fish…and get hammered.
Dad always enjoyed those weekends, sure do miss him.

We had a great time at Myrtle Beach playing a different golf course every day for a week.
I grew up playing golf with my dad and his two buddies from work , so when he retired ,
they would schedule a golf week during the summer.

When dad remarried , his new wife had a condo at Myrtle Beach. Worked out great (y)

Like I always said when I was drag racing…”football, baseball, basketball, tennis and golf only take one ball, drag racing takes 2”…hahahaha

When I was 10 (1970) I went with my adult cousin and her family camping in the summer on the E coast, Carolinas always stuck in my mind, I remember going to those places but not many other states on the E coast, 71 we went out west in their 70 or 71 Buick Wildcat as far as the 4 corners, Denver, I think she was my cousin she was my great Gmothers younger sisters daughter, maybe my aunt? Anyway always had a good time with them, I love the Carolinas, stayed in Charlotte for a month in 92

What a difference a week makes, the roads we drove are gone. NC12 is the only road down the Outer Banks, it is washed out just after the Oregon Inlet bridge.
The are initiating an emergency ferry system to get people off and supplied in. Grocery stores are empty. The ferry provision has been there, just has taken time for the ferries to be brought in and crews. 4000 people are permanent residents on the Hatteras Island area and there are visitors trapped too. The Ocracoke ferries are operating again, the ferry takes 2 1/2 hrs to get to Cedar Island, basically the terminus of US 70.

And this is why Lisa and I decided against buying a beach house on the gulf..... we were very serious and started looking.... even found a house on stilts with a 4 car garage under with 12' ceilings to the bottom of the 1st floor (all enclosed) which included an elevator to the 1st floor.

After the destruction from the last hurricane, we decided it wasn't a good idea and we really didn't want our lives totally disrupted and taking a chance of losing everything, so we moved further inland (we were 7 miles to the gulf in the last house, now we are 11 miles).

HWY 12 in that area travels through US Park Service National Seashore land, NC has built a bridge to bypass problem areas farther South. NC 12 has been a problem for decades and just think, this was just a NorEaster.
