Underhood Light

I've been looking for quite some time to find an underhood light that was super bright, not rechargeable, and not too expensive, and I just couldn't find one I was willing to pay for with exactly what I wanted..... SO, I made my own.

Here is the materials list if you like it and want to make your own:

One (1) Harbor Fright 5k lumens 4' LED - $22.00 (make sure it's the aluminum frame one so it's not heavy)
Two (2) Harbor Fright 95 pound magnets - I think about $8.00

That's it.

Here's what it looks like.....

Great idea. Could you get by with a slightly less strong magnet? I’d be afraid that they might be hard to pull off. One could also plastidip them if you wanted to protect the paint of the underside of the hood.
I don’t think you can get that much light for that little money any other way.
👍🏻

Yes, you can, but I went for the 95lb magnet for 2 reasons....

1. Uneven surface so it would stick with minimal contact.
2. You can add layers of felt to lesson the effects and prevent scratching of the paint.

I'm sure it's just fine on a '64 Oldsmobile hood, but maybe not so much on a modern day car's hood! LOL!

I got me one of those new fangled LED trouble lights and it works well. I've been burned by the cage lights many times.

The grill in the front wasn't so bad, but when under the car and reaching for it and you grab the back reflector part, man that'll wake you up in the mornin'.
