New base for Greenhouse (Lisa's she shed)

kmakar

Janitor
Been working for weeks (off and on) to set the base for Lisa's she shed (greenhouse), so I started laying the pavers. Unlike most greenhouse's where they plant directly in the ground, Lisa likes having elevated beds so she doesn't have to bend as far.

Here are a couple of pics so far. I will finish the base and pavers this week, but this afternoon, Lisa found a guy selling lots of classic cars (she says they look like barn finds), so she's taking me out this afternoon to go look. Maybe I'll buy another project to fill my new shop!

Outstanding start ! My wife would love a greenhouse. Maybe in this next year. Lately she's been all about her animals and orchard. Is it going to be a PVC or wood frame? Is it a kit? And the weather today was amazing. Got to 73* here in N. FL and not a cloud. about 5mph wind. We spent most of the day in the shop and leveling some areas on the property.

Cant wait to see this project.

The greenhouse is a kit from harbor freight (actually 2 of their 10' x 12' greenhouse kits). I'll be blending the 2 together into one (not like you see on youtube), but actually built so it looks like it was meant to be that way. I also don't use the crap sliding doors that come with it. I bought a mill finish (aluminum finish) screen door with glass and screen that will be the entry. I'll also do a delete of the roof vents and reconfigure those roof vents and turn them into awning windows on the ends and I'll be putting in a 20" sealed motor exhaust greenhouse fan in the middle to pull the air through to cool it off when it gets too hot (not going to rely on natural convection) which will be thermostatically controlled. For winter heat I've decided to use a tiny house pellet stove as we only get a few freezing days a year, so we can keep the cold temp plants toasty warm (like tomatoes, peppers, and beans).

In the dead of winter around Central NC greenhouses are hard to use.

We have apple, pear, and plum trees. Next year we will expand the garden into the pasture for potatoes and onions.

Lisa planted grapes, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and peach trees, as well as a banana tree. She does all the veggies in the she shed, but this next year she'll do potatoes and onions inside the she shed (not that she'll have space.

We ordered seeds for spring, they are in short supply too.

Lisa ordered almost $100 worth about 2 weeks ago... tomorrow I'll be cutting the small pavers to fill in the edges and then the base is done, and Saturday I'll start building the greenhouse.

My watermelon plants started growing again and are blooming, I wish I could protect them from the cold. I also have volunteer tomatoes growing nicely.

Looks good is this the first one you guys have had or is this a new bigger and better version. I would love to have one in Phoenix but tough to keep things alive in the summer.

This is the bigger better version.... The greenhouse is for growing in the winter (which would be good for you too).

That is so awesome !

Curiously, and thinking about you Solar thread and assuming his will be tied to your new grid, How much power would you say you have left over? would you say you have a 10% extra power?

What sort of watering system do you think you'll have? One down the street is a 2000sqft and they have a main water line, then each row of tables have a dedicated line off the main. Each row has a water timer.

Love your work!

Actually one of the reasons for putting the greenhouse up right there was to add another solar array over the top of the roof as it faces due south (already have an array that faces west).

The batteries are usually done charging (if it's a full sunny day) around 1pm or 2pm and the rest is used directly by everything in the house, shed, and greenhouse, so yes, there is a surplus of at least 5 kwh to 10kwh.

I currently have a well, and we use drip irrigation (emitters) in our greenhouse, but I also ran a 1" line for using a hose (Lisa likes to hand water).
