64 Two-Door Wagon L79/4 speed build

Finally it was time to address the lack of engine response. I was worried the cam was flat or the carb rebuild I paid big bucks for was done poorly. After readjusting the valves 3 times, pulling the carb off & trying the one from my Nova, nothing was different. I did a leak down test & a compression test everything was good. Right around 210lbs of pressure for each cylinder.

Last thing I try was the points distributor I bought off Ebay & rebuilt. First I ditch the points after getting 2 sets of defective Standard points from OReilly. Throw on the points eliminator kit from AAW, but alas, no change. Finally I yank out the small body HEI that Dave Ray built me for my Nova...install it in the wagon & the car ROARS to life. And I mean ROARS. Thank fucking god. Now I need to find another distributor, so I go on to Rock Auto & order a rebuilt points distributor from Cardone. I expected to get the '66 up aluminum body version, but lo & behold they sent me the correct year cast iron version. Yahtzee. I shim the shaft, throw the AAW points conversion on that one & life is good.

Here's a quick video of the engine from a cold start. DO NOT PAY ANY ATTENTION to the mess that is my Dad's shop. He has a bit of a hoarding problem. I digress....

Having trouble uploading it....Is there a file size limit?

Yep, 10 megs.... bigger than that and you'll have to upload to youtube and share the link.

Beautiful Pete always loved the looks of those wagons. If I ever had anything that beautiful I might be scared to drive it.

I'm totally miserable when it leaves the garage. When I finish my Nova, it will never be this nice, I want to drive it & enjoy it.

Here's the video of the engine from a cold start. Again, don't mind my Dad's disorganized shop. This is what happens when you have over 100 car projects at once. You quickly run out of space & slowly start to lose your mind. Again, I digress....

Engine isn't a monster, but it runs really strong for the stock technology of 60 years ago. Enjoy...

The engine detailing is wonderful :)
What year is the Nova ?

I know this post is a few months old now. But I just joined thanks to Pete's recommendation, so..... The wife and I were in Las Vegas a couple years ago and Pete gave us a garage tour. He has moved back East since then. The 64 wagon was still in paint prep at that time. We got to see how nice that body really is before getting covered in new paint. And now I get to hear that L79 running. SWEET! My favorite Chevy small-block. Thanks, Pete, for steering me over here.
