Hipo Parts from the 70s and 80s

A very good friend is going through a divorce and has some old hipo parts he has managed to keep for decades.

He called me about a Turbo 400 trannie and i have no idea what its worth. Been sitting decades. Whats a fair price?

He also has a complete Hilborne (spell check) fuel injection system from the 60s and was asking me what that could be worth.

He has a complete small block roller motor built in the 80s that developed a knock and was shut down and pulled from a 66 Chevelle in 1986 and he has not even pulled the pan to find the knock.

I believe he has some other small block stuff like Chevy Pink Rods and what not.

I an trying to get pics but he has a lot on his plate right now.
I am interested in the Turbo 400 but have no idea of a fair value. He has more stuff that i have forgotten about but i will keep trying to see exactly what he has.

He also has a set of 2.02 hump heads he is trying to value.

The hump heads with those seats would be worth some coin.

Just had my TH400 rebuilt in the 75 Dually. A local reputable trans race shop. Had this conversation with the owner. TH400 is only about worth what the case is worth. They are charging $350 if you need a case or want to use their case and have them rebuild one of their trans (you wanting a TH400 and don't have one to start with). All new and upgraded parts was $1200 with me dropping off my Trans. If I was looking for one, I would pay the $250 for his trans and then take it to a shop for rebuild.

They also did my Chevelle TH350 and that was $1600 but all upgraded race internals.

Jakes Trans just did another friends TH350 and he was told Trans shops are running out of cases for TH400 and TH350. Jakes currently has NO TH350 cases and will not build you a TH350 unless you provide the case.

Never thought I'd see that happen.... running out of cases? Wow, you used to be able to get a boneyard TH400 or TH350 for $75, but then again that was a few years ago.

Wow, I was going to toss our my kids turbo 350 when I take it out of the car and I did get rid of one last fall. Figures. I have one extra turbo 400 left out of my old Suburban, guess I will keep it now.

power glides have any value at all?
My dads got mine in his garage in Michigan. Not looking to get rich but don’t want to send it to scrap either if someone can use it.
Part of the problem is he’s in upper Michigan and I suspect has little CL action and no way in hell he’s getting on FB to sell.

My brother and I just sold 5 TH400s for $250ea to a trans builder to use as cores.

I sold a 60s era SBC Hilborn setup for $900 with a later pump and missing some of the plumbing . If you call Hilborn and give them the serial number, they will send a copy of the original shipping invoice. (Mine went to Southeastern Speed Shop in Blountville TN in Feb. 1966, and was set up for 327ci to run on gas)

I have a spare TH350 and TH400 with converters sitting in the shop just incase. if I run across a few cheap ones Ill probably buy them.

I was just thinking the same thing. I'm thinking they'll be getting even more scarce, so they'll be as good as gold.

TH400s are really popular with the big power turbo guys. They're the only transmissions that will hold up behind 1500+hp, and they don't need overdrive because highway gears help the turbos spool faster.

Even the Ford guys are cutting the bellhousings off and adapting to fit TH400s behind their Ford engines.

TH350 I don't know if there's much demand

I was able to find a good running 4L80e pulled straight from a wrecked Silverado for $650. I wouldn't waste my time with a non overdrive unless it's going in a race car.
