what to do with engine and trans?

overpaid

So I finally decided to just do an LS swap and now I have my old powerglide and 400 engine. Car ran and drove fine but the trans and engine leaked a little. Is this worth anything or should I just scrap it? I do not want to deal with trying to sell anything on ebay so that is out of the question.

Of course, here you go. Engine has a nice 7501 intake and summit aluminum pulleys. Newer alternator. I also have summit coated long tube headers and billet specialties valve covers. Of course if I scrapped it I woudl take all the nice stuff off.

I've sold a couple powerglides for $100 but it takes some time to find a buyer. The 400 is worth a couple hundred for the short block IF it's original bore. IMO, going .030 over is max.

Yes that is a good point on the 400, I should pull the heads and measure the bore. But yea by the time it takes up room in the garage for a year that is why I considered just sending it all to scrap.. Anyone that is local and wants to pick it up and sit on it let me know (of course I will keep all the nice parts )

Ha, I have too many parts I'm keeping myself, but I just have an issue letting good stuff go in the event I need it in the future.

I have 2 complete 327's (both complete and both small journal), a powerglide myself still bolted to the 283, plus a host of other GM parts (pontiac, olds, chevrolet).

damn well maybe I will put them up on craigslist see what happens but if anyone from the forum wants the block and the PG, come get them for free!

I took a caliper to it and i got about 4.112, isn't stock 4.125 so I am guessing just some carbon around the ridge is keeping it from showing stock.

Yeo. 4.125". I'm a 400 fan and I keep a virgin block. Id hang on to it as I'm a "connoisseur" of parts as well. Problem is with those is its a head sell. The only way you are going to get good money for it is to have it Magnaflux'ed and keep the paperwork. When guys are looking for 400's, they only pay dirt prices because it may take several buys and Magnaflux test to get a good one. By the time you are done and costs, you could have bought an aftermarket block and had it machines. Unless of course you get lucky on the first go. Or buy a block already apart Magnaflux'ed and ready to go. Then I would pay $500 maybe $600 tops . As then after that I would still have to worry about Mains align bored to ensure straightness or close to it.

Normally I am just like you and others but I just do not have the room now, I guess I will make some room becuase I have no choice but in the meantime will just try and get rid of it. Great points above too.

I did an LS swap on my Camaro, but if I had started with a good 400 SBC, I would have built that instead.
LS's cost a lot more than you think ! I spent $1500 just for the edelbrock wiring system and controller.

Don’t make me second guess hahah! So yea I think I see what you mean. Just the engine mounts and x member for the trans is about 1000, the ecu and wiring is 1500. Starting to ad up!

Not being a person that would ever do one but wouldn't a donor car be the cheapest way out?
