1966 LS swap

Also as I am looking closer I believe the oil pan is resting on the cross-member. I am going to call speed engineering today and see what they say but I am assuming the answer will be, well it fit right...? Which it did so...what can I really say...

Yea. You definitely don't want it resting on the frame. Maybe some spacers under the mounts.
Yea I am going to see what they say when i call in about 1 hour but I read some people saying that they used spacers and did other things that are similar. As of now I hate to say I think it is coming out again, at least up a little to get some spacers in there.

For the tie-rods, can the idler arm be lowered slightly where it bolts to the frame ?
I think that is possible but it seems so small that I think I can tweak the engine a little or even just grind a little off the tie rod and it would be good.

The other thing I was thinking though is that if I space the engine up then that puts the trans down a little.....

I'd add washers to lift the engine a hair and keep the remaining parts as stock as possible.

@Nashville Cat is correct, 100 dollars.

I just got off the phone with speed engineering and there were a lot of ummms, but he said try the spacers that will probably take care of it. I still think I would have had the same issues with the holley one but unless someone wants to buy me one so I can try I guess we will never know!

I hear stories that they are not the same but haven't seen them side by side. I do know I had zero issues with my holley in my 67. I think the spacers will fix your problem.

Yep so for the 100 dollars you just have to say is it worth the gamble?? Hindsight ehhh I said I am okay with it but really I think I would just go with the holley becuase I am 50 bucks in on these spacers (found them cheaper on amazon). But like you said if you had 0 issues in your 67 then based on that I would just pay the 100 extra!

Also, which mounts again did you use? That could factor into this as well....

I respect your candid honesty.

I think you are close enough it will work out, just a bit more labor.

I respect your candid honesty.
Yea for sure, I just want to make sure that we all (and anyone else) gets the truth! I was hoping for a better report for those speed engineering guys but so far it is a little mixed! I wish I had more cash to play with I would pull the engine out and try the holley pan!!! I am very curious!

FYI from my post in the el camino forum....guy says the holley pan dropped in but he did have to fiddle a little to get the mounts in.

-1 for Gates water pump
+1 for LS brackets alternator bracket

Had to grind the bottom of the water pump to get it to fit, it was interfering with the front cover. Not a huge deal but if you were doing this and didn't have a grinder or air compressor, that would suck!

LS brackets alternator bracket, great quality, looks great and fit perfect.

With that water pump it’ll only allow for use of the truck intake I believe. The throttle cable location will interfere.
