Let’s talk LS intake

So my 6.0 has the truck intake which I heard flows just fine but of course it is ugly and others flow better.

@Nashville Cat mentioned ls3 intake from summit. Any other options? The sheet metal intakes? FAST? MSD?

Or just leave it ugly and stock for now until I do a set of heads….

Face the music ! :)
That truck intake has to go !
And the LS3 intake not only looks good, it's cheap compared to everything else because it includes intake, throttle body and injectors for $1037.
This can support 550 naturally aspirated horsepower. I combined this with a Rick's Tanks gas tank that uses the stock LS3 fuel pump
that you can buy anywhere.

I definitely agree with you but this is how it starts 😅

Well I will do an intake, ahhh better do a cam, I will do just a little bigger cam so then I need a converter…eh might as well do heads 😩

But okay let’s say I just do the intake. Any other options or you’re sticking with this one as the best choice for an NA motor?

Oops, major warning ! Do we know what type of heads are on your 6.0L ? Cathedral port or square type LS3 ports ?
That will determine what intake you should buy.

Great point okay It has 317 heads so that’s cathedral

Aside from the stock truck intake being unbelievably ugly I am thinking to keep it. i am worried it’s just gonna open a can of worms. I think I’m just going to drop the engine in as it is except for changing the oil pan and then save money and down the road I can do a proper heads, cam and intake….

The truck intake is pretty tall. Hope it clears the stock hood ?

That’s a good point! I guess we will see….
According to this , it should clear

Jeff Smith : I’ve never measured the clearance for an LS swap in a second generation Chevelle like yours but I do know that this manifold will clear the stock hood
of the first generation ’64-’67 Chevelles. My guess is that the Trailblazer SS intake would also fit under your hood line.

@Nashville Cat

ever see this? Maybe I could use this with the intake you suggested?

Possibly. Since the fuel injection intakes only flow air and not air/fuel; it probably wouldn't hurt performance. And then you could buy LS3 square port heads in the future ?
Does anybody test these adapters ?

317’s are cathedral ports. The tbss truck intake is ugly but preforms well, ran one on my car for awhile, ls6 is a okay intake, fast 92 if you can find one is good and the fast lsxr or lsxrt 102 are the top preforming plastic intakes across the rpm’s up to around 6500ish. If you can find ls3 heads the ls3 intake is near perfect. That big 260cc ls3 port can hurt low end torque a little.

A high school friend who is a very prominent NHRA Stock champion say after testing no less than 15 LS intakes that the LS1 Camaro intake is still the best factory intake flow wise he has ever tested. Gut knows his stuff, he runs low 9's with that intake.

I know this is a little bit of an old thread but if I'm not mistaken there was an LS intake test and the truck intake won. So maybe do a search and see if you can find that intake test then you have some apples to apples to go by.I'm going to see if I can find who did that intake test to see if its valid.
OK I went back and tried to find the youtube vid that I saw but this isn't it.It is one of the better tests I've seen and with LS stuff Richard Holdener seems to know his stuff really well. So it's worth watching just to hear what he has to say.
I'll keep trying, however it seems the further away from stock the more effective an intake becomes.

No the Fast 102 LSXRT (truck) and the Fast 102 LSXR (car) end up the top 2
The stock truck intake isn’t even close.
Lsxrt 592 hp 502 tq @7000 @ 5700
LSXR 591hp 505 tq @6700 @ 5700
Truck intake 549 hp 481 tq @6700 @ 5000
TBSS intake 562 hp 497tq @7000 @5000
These fast intakes do run out of air on bigger engines
Shorter runners will offer a higher peak hp but sacrifice low to mid power and all around less torque.

Yeah but the OP's engine is really close to stock.I didn't read anything about a newer cam or any other upgrades. So would an expensive intake be the first upgrade or would replacement heads or camshaft come first ? The truck intake has enough to keep up with a better camshaft I think.
Along with a set of headers, a camshaft would make a big change on the way that engine performed.

OP never said what upgrades or what heads just asked what intakes flow best.
if he went with LS3 that intake is just fine, if he went with cathedrals port heads and stayed stock the ls1/ls6 would be best depending on hood clearance then the factory truck intakes. OP never posted again with the upgrades if any that’s why the thread died until today.
