Chevelle project update

Like brand new out of box, or brand new been sitting on the car awhile?

bought it last year and put it on the car right away. Sent them an email asking if there is anything they can do for me. Not expecting an answer.

Ill probably just buy a new one. I’d like to get the car done, already.

Did you but it from a guy on EBay out of Asheville NC named Pirate Jack or something like that?

Bought a dud for my CJ, never could get fluid pressure out the forward bowl. Tore it apart, worked without the secondary plunger on the bench, but never could get it to work with everything assembled. Gave up, but couldn't find the damn receipt!!! I normally have a rule that all receipts for lifetime warranties go in the glove box, but not this time.

it was a display, so it has a few cosmetic issues but it was half the price of new. Ebay seller has over 175k feedback. I haven’t heard back, I’ll probably just chalk it up to stupid/unfortunate tax and buy another.

I bought one on EBay from the Pirate Jack guy, it had the correct OEM bleeders, didn't work out of the box. I tried to contact the seller, no reply. $60 thrown away. I bought an Advance Auto one, works fine.

My Gold Chevelle had a "new" master cylinder but was on the car for several years. The car came back from paint and I could not move it around the driveway, bad master cylinder. Advance replaced it and has been working fine ever since.

Yeah, poking around, it looks like this seller isn’t so great. Ah well. Shoulda just paid the money up front. I should know better 😕

At least master cylinders are still cheap and available at Autozone and O'Reilly's here. I need another one on m '70 Elky, it was new a few yearsa ago, but now won't build pressure to the rear. Reman stuff seems a lot more hit or miss than is used to. I bought a power steering pump for the Sprint I was working a while back and it leaked as soon as I put it on. The replacement one was fine. Had a warranty from Autozone, but I had the hassle of dealing with it, and waiting a few days for the second one.

Here are some better shots of the buffing. I’m working that in between working on getting it running and waiting for parts.

I’ve got the trans lines, fuel line from pump to carb, fluid and filter changes, and a few odds and ends and it will be ready to fire up.864F7226-242E-4586-AAA5-165D31B143D6.jpeg133EFBB0-CA9D-4105-82A8-89BB1BBBF00D.jpeg2AE9E9A7-FFC0-4550-AF9A-183E87CB0415.jpeg

Thanks. It’s not perfect, but I like the fact I’m doing it myself. I’m really happy with my decision to go with the Glasurit. It was expensive but worth the money all day long even when you take my mediocre skills into account.

Driving this car is definitely doable this summer.

Ok , I have brakes, I think. Dunno if it’s the silicone brake fluid or all the weird parts I have on the car, but this was not like previous brake work I’ve done. It was like pulling teeth to get any fluid to come out of the bleeders but it’s got a good firm pedal and the wheels will stop spinning when I hit the brake, so I’m calling it good.

should be getting the fuel line and the trans cooler lines in this week, oil and trans fluid change, then I should be ready to hook up the battery and test the electrical and then fire it up.

Make sure when you check your brakes you're not going far (just in case). I had the same thing and still had air in the lines and had to bleed again.

My experience has always been that the pedal feels great until you start the car and the vacuum boost kicks in and you realize you still have some work to do…..

Can't count how many times I've replaced virtually everything, started with 0 fluid, triple seated the fittings, bleed the master and then spent no more than an hour fill and bleed......SPEED BLEEDERS....they be the chit. They cost maybe $25 for the set of 4, but well worth it. Since I normally work on front disc, rear drum chevelles, I just keep reusing the bleeders.
