Chevelle project update

Got it to run, sort of. It doesn’t run well or run for long and needs a shot in the carb to fire but Ive got it mostly right. Just need to do some diagnosis, I think it has a misfire or bad vacuum leak. Going to pick up some rubber caps as the ones on the carb are dry rotted.

Got most of the electrical issues resolved, lights working etc. The only thing not working correctly are the wipers, and I’m pretty sure that’s an Autowire deal in that the harness is a one size fits all and the instructions for that particular part are very vague.
Working on a nut and bolt check now, going around the car and marking torqued bolts with a red paint pen. Should have that done this week, I hope. After that it’s finishing the convertible top assembly and, installing the interior, windshield, and then getting the mouldings on.

getting there.

You’ve gotten a lot done recently. Keep it up. I’m a good distance behind you but making more progress lately than I have in years. The wiring harness feels a little daunting but the rest has been fun. Stripping paint, stripping rust, rust repair, thinking your done with the rust only to find more rust is the worst. That’s when it’s easy to get side tracked and set her sit for 6-12 months.
Love to see your paint when you are done.

Check your wiper motor ground

Got the top frame mostly assembled and installed. The header I have not installed yet because it’s trashed and I’m not sure if I want to repair it or replace it. Fuel system is complete and I just need to make a couple tweaks to the transmission and linkage and it should be ready to roll. Hopefully I’ll get to the interior this week or next. Is it a plastic or glass back window? Had plastic in the '68 GTO clone and went to glass. Night and day difference. If I was keeping the '64 Olds ragtop I'd have swapped that to glass.

Is glass an option for all years? I hadn’t seen that as an option. I need a new top for my 67 and the old plastic one got very hazy so I’d like to avoid that.

Not sure if it is. I had my guy order glass and then pull out the plastic and install the glass. It has a zipper now so I guess I could keep the glass for the next top (when it got one).

My brother restored his '69 SS conv. Garnet red with parchment interior right along side my 69 sedan..... double the fun. What interior and options are on yours Andy?

To answer my own question, seems like the main parts houses like OPGI sell only plastic window tops at least for 66 - 67, but found a convertible top only place (no idea if they are any good or not), but they sell tops with glass rear window.

ive got Parchment too. Buckets with a column shift. Also have a digital dash, Vintage Air, electric fan, and upgraded suspension. Probably going to end up changing out the springs and dampers though, I bought them years ago before I really knew what I was doing and are not what I would choose now.

Starts and runs on it‘s own. First time in over 15 years. I have the top assembled except for the header. Mine needs repairs and I haven’t done them yet, but that’s the next thing. Got the power top working, too. Once I repair and replace the header I can align the top and windows.

I’m reasonably sure it’s drivable at this point but with the 15 year old hard tires and the one molded in the shape of a flat, it’s not rolling very soon.

It’s getting close.

I might roll it around but likely wouldn't go out on a Bonzai run.

Working on the top header. Not perfect but it’s going to be covered up anyway.
