What would the original color be? How would I clean or prep for paint or finish? 1969 rear drum.

they were never painted. The rear was never painted, just sprayed from the rear with black to hide the contrast once the car was complete. To be 100% accurate even a flash rust would be officially correct in all areas not seen from the rear of the car....but nobody, including me, would let that happen. Finishing the rear drums in cast gray is the norm.
