Scan tool?

The one for $143 seems to work for trans too, does the $130ish one do that too? if not I'd get the 140ish scanner but unless you need to use this a lot why not just go to the parts store and let them scan for free?

I've always went to a auto parts store, but sometimes I wonder if some of those guys have a clue. Maybe I don't when it comes to this stuff either, but then I won't be pissed at anybody but me.:D

Yes, Autozone or Advance Auto will do it for free.
I have a scanner that works well for less than $20. I've had it for 8 years or more ?

As a rule, anything under $250 will pull codes, the more expensive ones can be used for more functions. I keep a $100 in my desk at the dealership to read codes on the service drive to see which tech to assign it to. Harbor Freight has a nice selection for occasional users..
Where you run into trouble at the parts store is when they see an O2 code and sell you a sensor, there are multiple other reasons for the code and the sensor may not fix your problem. Had one the other day that the owner had shotgunned with all 4 O2 sensors that had a wire from the PCM that had been chewed up by a rat.
