How to get better fuel mileage with one simple fix

So I drive an old '05 Hyundai Accent and it's been about one of the best beaters I have eve owned. Paid $500 for it and have been driving it over 7 years now with very little maintenance needed. This past year It got poorer fuel mileage, used to get in the low 30's in town but have been like 23-26 mpg lately. I found that the car did not like to go into TCC lockup so I investigated that and one simple fix got my mileage up over 10 mpg. While I was driving I pushed the button on the shifter for the o/d and the car goes back to 3rd then o/d. Funny thing is now it starts to go back into TCC lockup again. This last tank full I got over 37mpg by a push of a button, so I am pretty happy with that. When I put the 200-4r in my Sons car I will make sure the lockup works now.
