My 69 project side notes

I wanted to try to use everything that I had when I got my car but also want it how it might have looked when you bought it new. Along the way I want to document some of the differences more in detail without it being on my build project page. One of the things I want to show is the front assembly difference between my original 69 front drums that were on the car and the original 69 disk that I’m replacing it with. This is for my car only and I am by no means a brake expert. Just want the show the two for likeness and differences. This is what it looked like when I started.

Here is a side by side of some of the parts. Some pictures may seem the same but a part may have been flipped or moved.

One question I had started this and it was are the knuckles the same? My knuckle for my disk brake I powdercoated and although it looks good it doesn’t go with what I have now. So I have my drum knuckle that I painted back when I was doing the drums. The size and shape along with the bolt hole all seem to line up fine. The only difference I can see is the numbers stamped. What do they mean? Do they matter?

This is the difference in the dust shield.

Dust cover bolt to spindle. Short is to disk.

These are the different bolts for knuckle thru dust shield and spindle. The bolts seem to be the same length the only difference is the nut, not size but look.

I'd suspect you've got disc from a later car. The '69 used 2 piece rotors, and 700, 701 calipers....going by memory on the calipers. The dust shields are the same from '69-72. The knuckles I always thought were interchangeable, but the part numbers could have changed through the years, not sure. 1 piece rotors were implemented sometime midyear in '70.

One difference I see is in the center one slot is punched out.

This is the closest I can get to lining up the spindles for comparison. Disk spindles are the ones mounted.
