Explaining auto stuff to non car people

I’m on a Jeep forum to learn about the potential problems with my wife’s Jeep(Never owned one before or a diesel for that matter)
anybody know of a good Jeep forum? The one I’ve found seems to be a bunch of yuppies that can’t figure out why a 10:1 turbo engine goes into reduced power mode during engine braking on a 6000 lbs vehicle with 87 octane. Any explanation other then Jeep is fully at fault for telling them use 91 for optimal performance 87 will reduce performance.

It all comes down to either not paying attention or saving a buck I suppose. I find it ironic that someone who spends so much money on a vehicle that requires high octane to cheap out and then get angry why they lack performance.

My neighbor who sold me the '64 Olds Starfire convertible kept telling me the car was having issues and would want to stall out going around corners and just generally was slow. When I asked her what gas she was putting in the car, she looked at me like I was nuts and told me she was putting in regular gas. I then explained to her that the engine (10.5:1 394 Ultra High compression) required at least 91 octane and it's best to use non ethanol gas for it to perform properly.

She's 82 and said she never knew, but it was printed right on top of the air cleaner cover, but I guess people just don't pay attention or just want to be cheap.
