I work from home, I really do not go many places far with my car and when I found out I could get 8k for my honda which I only paid 4k for I sold it and bought (saved) this car, got it for 4k. I remember these from high school and my buddy even had one! Found this local, 54k original miles and it is in pretty awesome shape! Plus it has the 5.0 motor which I know like the back of my hand since I have been a fox body guy since i was 14. I love these cars and I thought it would be nice to save this one and have a little fun with it!

My wife had an '88 Thunderbird with the 5.0 when I met her. Was a brand new car at the time, we kept it for 5 years til kids came along and getting a car seat out of the back became problematic. It had true dual exhaust with a crossover, one of the cats had t he bed get loose and start to rattle. I dropped the pipes after the cats, and jabbed a tire iron in a bunch of times to break the bed up into small pieces, then started it and revved it up to blow out all the pieces of the bed, the hooked the pipes back up. It was not loud but had a really nice deep sound after that.
The 5.0, AOD drivetrains are pretty bulletproof.

Thanks guys!! 1986 Mercury Cougar, almost identical to the T-Bird. I have my old 8.8 from my mustang I plan to put that in and then right now I am checking on part interchangability on other mustang parts because I really want to upgrade the shocks and springs.

found this guide, looks like a lot will work.

Not relevant to you since it’s a different motor but I think they worked on one of those on Hot Rod Garage once. It was the small (2.3?) turbo engine. Goal was to try to get similar HP to the modern turbo 4 cylinders in the Mustangs I think.

yea I saw that, the cougars and t birds had an option for the turbo 4cyl engine. I believe just like the SVO mustangs.

Turbo Coupes were a 2.3 turbo 4 cyl, with an air filter box offset to the right that mated to an opening in the hood for cold air. A guy comes to our local cruise with a 44K mile original black #88 with a 5 speed. There were a VERY few '86 turbo Cougars like the OP's body style, you may be thinking of the '89 next gen smaller body Cougars and Super Coupe Thunderbirds, they had had a turbo V-6 with a 5 speed.
