Rear control arm modify

Working on the rear control arm that needed to be modified for the 12 bolt. Here is how I’ve done it. Question is and not sure of the metal thickness of this piece, but is it thick enough or should I go thicker before I sand for welding and repainting. Thanks.

What is the modification needed? Just adding material for thickness?
Changing from a 10 bolt to 12. The drivers side has to be shaved to clear. That piece is just extra reinforcement.

I never realized the CA's are different between 10 & 12 bolt, when I pulled the 10 bolt from my Malibu the 70 12 bolt I bought had both upper and lower CA's, swapped those to a 68 12 bolt I bought and put that in, never thought to compare them but thought they were the same?

Not sure if all had the modifications. I know people that have swapped with no issues. I think the repo ca have the modification. I did know I needed it until I swapped.

Took some comparisons pictures. The unpainted is my not original 10 bolt I took out. Painted is the 12 bolt. The 12 bolt ca would fit without being modified, but not much clearance and would probably rub.

I didn't know either. I took out my 10 bolt and installed QP 9". Used the same UMI upper adjustable with the same solid Roto-joints. But the ears on the QP9s are a little taller also.
