Advance Auto History

Advance Auto must be inundated with crappy parts failing. There was a time where I could see years of purchase history. I looked last night to find when I bought a part, they only go back for a year now.

I have had to replace parts with lifetime warranties 10 years after I bought them, they don't like people like me.

I try not to buy from local stores. For example I need a radiator for our Sons 2012 Silverado. The local parts store has it for $325. I've found custom shops that will build one for a few hundred dollars more. Ill most likely go that route. Last year I went through three starters for my truck until one worked. Finally took that one back and bought a Tilton from Summit and never looked back.

I buy a lot from local stores, like Cheers, they know me by name. I am sure the counter guys can look up the part and who knows, I can probably find the receipt.

Funny about local. I am at Discount Tire having the Excursions tires balanced, I brought the gold Chevelles tires too for a balance. They are not charging me for anything. I bought the Chevelle tires from Discount Tire Direct over a year ago.

I had a round with NAPA alternators about 20 years ago, original went at 117K, got about 10k out of a couple NAPA remans.

I buy everything at the local Auto Zone, I look up what I need and just go in with a part #. The guys and girls there know me and just get what I want and I can avoid the dreaded "whats it for". Never have any problems with them, and everything shows up the next day.

I won't go to Advance Auto ever again. They wouldn't honor the warranty on the truck batteries in my F250 diesel. I bought top of the line with a 4 year warranty and at 3 years they were dying and when I went down to get them replaced, they came out to check them, said they were dying, checked the alternator which was fine and then politely told me they don't honor the 4 year warranties anymore and will only do 2 year warranties, so I said well I paid for it 3 years ago, you have to honor it, and they said no they didn't, and then the guy has the balls to ask me if I want him to install new batteries in my truck and in front of the other customers I said, nope, you don't honor your warranties, and you lost my business forever. Then the manager comes out as I was walking out the door and says he's give me a deal on new batteries, so I turned back and said, why, so you can renege on that warranty too, no thanks, you guys lied and you don't honor your warranties, you lost my business forever. I've never set foot in one since (about 5 years ago).

I have never had an issue with Advance, they are always helpful when I have a mutt project and need something unusual.

What I have found id the dealer is often times cheaper for stuff that the parts jobbers and that stuff can be hit or miss depending on what it is.

They asked my name for their database, and after that, the price went up 10%......little girl didn't even look up at me. I asked why, she says I'm listed with special account. So why does that INCREASE my price? No clue. I said ring it up as a new customer.....dead stare. She actually had to call for manager's thoughts. I didn't leave without verbal satisfaction.

We had an Advance Auto here for a little while, opened with great fanfare and closed quietly 6 months later. I have no issue with O'Reilly's, but Auto Zone's rewards program is much better.

Performance parts I go with Summit, Speedway, or Jegs. When I need a part for my daily drivers(wipers, lights or a occasional part I just order from Rock auto, shipping is pricey but I haven’t had a problem with any of parts mostly brakes, pads my Toyota’s run and run lol. Sons Ram is another story.

Every time I go into any Advance Auto Parts store, it's a nightmare. No one is ever at the counter working and when you do get someone at the counter, they don't have a clue. Even better is when some idiot that has no business working on a car is trying to figure out what part they don't need inhibiting my need to pay for what I have and get out in a reasonable amount of time. I hate that store.

Might be a locality thing, but our AAP is the same, worst counterpeople known to man. They're never busy, and are flanked by AutoZone and O'reillys within a block. Not sure how they can stay afloat.

I have the same issue at O'Reillys and Auto Zone. I tend to order online and store pickup so I don't have to deal with counter people.

My Oreillys is in a super small town and ran by older guys. Its the only place Ill buy parts from other than Summit.
