Sold all my Bowtie SBC heads yesterday

After about 10 years I figured it was time to dump these 3 sets of heads. 2 of them were 034 Phase 2 and Phase 5 castings complete and a set of Large Port Vortec Bowtie heads I decided to dump them all, not because they are bad heads I just had nothing to run them on. Besides when I can get a Production Vortec head in the 10's I realized these were outdated heads. I still have a set of AFR 210 CNC heads to use along with 2 sets of Brodix heads. Now I can use the extra bucks for other projects. I told the guy I have a fresh 468BB compete for $4500 carb to pan, if he gets that I will build my 434 SBC.

Any experience with the 492 angle plug heads? These came on my 327, runners were ported and pocket ported. I had new guides and severe duty valves installed, crower ss rockers and custom length pushrods to put the rockers 90* at mid lift. 9.5 compression and a 455/465 lift, 215/225 duration on 112 seperation, Howards hft. I picked it to give me low to mid power. Probably sized it up a bit much, but happy the way it pulls for a 327. I'm sure I could have picked better stuff, but I had these heads and wasn't going to the track. Thoughts?

In their stock form they make a bout 10 more hp if you run a dome piston. I ran a set back in the 80's over my 186's they ran the same times. Still worth a few bucks. Put that cam on a 106 LCA and the 327 will pick up a bunch of low end torque. A wider LCA will make more torque over a wider rpm range.

My thoughts while building this was piston availablity was limited, at least off the shelf stuff. I chose cast pistons and they put the piston .027 down, and went with a .015 shim gasket. Not optimum, and a little high on the CR, so that's why I went with the wider LSA. So far, with 92 gas, haven't detected any detonation. 36 total timing.

That's a smart thing to do with today's garbage fuels out of the pump.
