Anyone use these?

Due to the fact that I am old and have been around so much,,, I am on my way back ! I have a home built 1970- SS 454 ( 468 ) with factory A/C. Its a Nomad Wgn. My cooling system is a direct & perfect copy of the VO-1 or H.D. 1970 cooling system. Again I am NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer. FACT: If you copy the factory cooling system for your year chevelle with A/C. You will have NO cooling issues, WHY?
Why did I copy the factory system? My one owner LS-5 / M-22 has factory A/C in my 52 years of ownership it never got hot! SO>>>> When I built my 70 468 driver I did what Chevy did in 1970,,,, Can you guess what it WORKS. ALL rubber parts and pieces are in place, VO-1 core support, Copper / brass 4 row ( from a pontiac wgn.), 772 fan blade and a later model clutch from the Chevy store, 811 water pump, water and green whatever anti freeze. A/C converted ( by me ) to R-134, 38 degrees out of the center vent. I will fill it with fuel and on a hot day I will park it in the sun, Turn on the A/C ands let it run till its out of fuel and it NEVER gets hot. I am NOT againts any modern Alum. rads, or fans and such.
Now ,, It is your call on what to do! Thanx for your time........................ Bob

Good post. The concept of stick with what is know to be good is, in the absence of any other knowledge, is the best thing to do.
Love the coming back part😂😂

Do you use the original style AC condenser or a new parallel flow condenser?

I had my P.O.A. valve adjusted for R-134 by the guys in Tampa. Then I worked with the Guys in Tampa to build a P. Flow condenser for a 70 - 72 Chevelle. Due to the fact I had the front end off of my wagon to replace the Condenser, I had a sample condenser from Florida, We made a few changes to get it FACTORY CORRECT for the 70--72 Chevelles. Now my 70 Chevelle has a P. Flow condenser that is a perfect copy of the 1970 tube & fin Cond.
The new P. Flow Condenser from Florida is a DIRECT bolt in USING " ALL " the Org. 1970 nuts bolts, ITS a direct bolt " NO CHAINSAW NEEDED " Its a perfect fit.
I did replace the A- 6 compressor with a new style 10 Cyl. Alum. compressor, WHY? The factory A-6 Comp. will leak out the front seal, WHY? The R-134 Molecules are smaller than than the R-12 Molecules. YES, You can use the old style A-6 with R-134. Here it is " BUT " you will have to charge it at least once a year. The reason for a P. Flow condenser " IS " R-134 runs MUCH HOTTER than R-12,,,,, SO you need more SQUARE INCHES OF COOLING AREA. Here is another " YES " Install the largest P. Flow condenser that will fit, YOU NEED THE COOLING AREA. One more " YES " You can use the Org. tube & Fin condenser. WHY CHANGE TO A P.Flow???
With the old tube and fin Cond. ... As long as you are moving above 30--40 MPH. All is well, Below 30- 40 MPH. The R-134 will not cool down and you will pump some HOT AIR in your car. I messed around for a few years with a half azzed A/C unit, didnt want to open my wallet.
I did a COMPLET CHANGE OVER 3 years ago. Around $1400.00. The A/C in my wagon is still KOLD and it has NOT been touched. I used the 80% rule. Mine is charged with " 48 Oz. " of R-134. No more NO less. P.S. I screwed around for 4-5 years, Trying to take short cuts. If I can help with any question on what I did, Just ask. Here is a TIP= To change the Evaporator in a 70--72 chevelle.... Pull the left or engine side of the A/C suitcase, It will come out, You have to get your tongue in just the right place, Then it falls out, If you do not want to mark the B.B. valve cover, Just take it off and the Evap. will come out with less tongue movement, LOL.
Not sure if any of this helps, Its about money! Just like Joel Rosen said ( Motion Performance ) " How fast do you want to go? How much do you want to spend. ". I thank you for reading this & Be KOOL. Bob

Thanks. I always heard that the Tampa AC place offers parallel flow condensers that bolt in with no mods so that's what I'll likely go with.

I had always heard to the get the biggest one possible but I've never really heard of anyone bragging that they got a much bigger than stock condenser to fit. I'm sure that are limiting factors like brackets and supports behind the grill and the physical dimension of the big opening on the core support.

Thanks.

Bob speaks the truth. I used one of their condensers and recalibrated POA valves on a '71 Sprint, and got 38 degrees at the center vent in Houston heat and humidity.
