Had a service call today for a AC not working. Noticed a 72 El Camino picture on the wall. I asked if he still had it. He said yeah he’s owned it for almost 50 years. Then asked do you wanna see it.. heck yeah I told him. Proceed out to his shop and notice the old aces sticker on his window. He said how did You know about ACES. Told him I seen it on TC awhile ago and the guy is a founding member over there. Said he has every Aces magazine from start to finish. Said they are just sitting here, he doesn’t want to throw them out. He asked if I would take them, heck yeah I’ll take them they will look great displayed in my shop. I asked him if he’s driven it recently he said not really hasn’t been to a show with it in 15 years or more. Rarely even drives it. I invited him to the local car clubs show in October, he asked about a few members that are still around. He now plans on making it to the show and seemed excited about getting his El Camino out once again.

Sounds like you made a fast friend. Most of us lose interest over time but it doesn't take much more than another's spark to get the fever back. Nice friendly catalyst.
I agree. My interest has come and gone. Having been around the same car for now 51 years it is not a novelty but more of an anchor to my past, that is what keeps me keeping it.

Throughout the years I have met many fine people in the hobby, some have past on, some left Chevelles, some I left but it is a good group. I am glad you rekindled an interest. IMO if it wasn't for the online community my car would be rusting away in a barn somewhere.

I had trouble with my furnace and we've had a repair service with the gas company on it since new (thankfully) So the guy notices a 403 bellhousing I have sitting there and he says "I know what that is". So we get to talking and he tells me he's got a 70 or 71 Monte Carlo that he takes to the car shows. I told him about my 71 ElCamino but he didn't have time enough to look at it.

That's a neat story...most of us can relate! Over the years I've seen '67 Chevelles, etc. at car shows here in PA, as well as at Carlisle and Hershey...always longing for my long gone '67 L78 Chevelle in Deepwater Blue. I had no idea how rare it was until joining TC in 2007...then I started learning more about Chevelles and making new friends. Before that I had spent all my car time & money restoring vintage BMW's. Now my garage also has a '67 Chevelle in it...nothing like my old car but nice to me at this point in my life. I hope to get "Big Red" out to some local car shows this summer for the first time. I know I will enjoy meeting some more friends. I actually spotted a bright red '66 Chevelle SS coming toward me last week on a cold but dry sunny winter day here in PA and I think my heart skipped a beat! Made me smile! It never gets old for me.
