I sprayed this Hot Rod Satin black on my dash, ashtray & glovebox door and think I should sand it with 1200 then use compound, how long should I wait after painting to sand it?

The glovebox door & ashtray are in the Sun right now, cars in the storage garage with the dash carrier out away from dash and steering column/steering wheel is laying on the drv seat, tomorrows fine heck the dash looked Horrible for a few yrs now since the body guy sprayed it very badly, I should've done this before the interior was put in but the Uph shop had an opening so I filled it lol

Does this have the mixing button like other Spray Maxx products?
Yes, seems like pretty good paint since I thought I didnt need to put Blue gloves on and after getting it all over my hand holding a pc of cardboard for cutting in 30 min later thinner doesnt touch it and Goof Off barely touches it, one 12 oz can did 2 good coats on the dash and 2 good coats on the GB dorr & ashtray then sprayed the rest prob another 2 coats on thefront of the GB door

I use to be pretty good Rat Rod painting my bikes but that was 20+ yrs ago last time I did that and that's before it was the cool thing to do I just didn't have any $$ , I think now that I wear glasses and being older I don't rattle can paint so good anymore, But this paint is Very good IMHO since I didn't get 1 run...and that really surprises me LOL

I've used the Spray Maxx clear, epoxy & urethane primer, all with excellent results & all cured very hard. 24 hours should be fine for you to sand those pieces.

The cans I bought online about 4? months ago and reading a can it says "Use before 3 months of date on can" my 2 cans are dated 7-21 but the can seemed fine, I first tested on a pc of cardboard because I was thinking maybe it's old and might Spit, I still have 1 unopened can for the steering column and a piece I'm having my sheet metal guy making for covering the gap from Core Support to Radiator but I'll have to wait till he makes the part and I cut the needed openings before I open the can since it says once activated use within 24 hrs

Well the dash looks great except for the spot I missed Uhg

I was in the middle of a few things yesterday, but it didn't occur to me to mention that you really can't sand & buff satin or semi gloss finishes anyway. You'll end up with gloss black.

Correct, but if done correctly with urethane, you'll get a very shallow gloss, which will give a very close appearance to lead based lacquer. I suspect you've got a low build with a 2k spray bomb, so I wouldn't recommend cutting. If you plan on flattening and re-shooting, that's a good method but have no experience with these products so can't offer any real good advice.

I liked Spray Maxx paint in my limited experience. I had a couple of bumper filler pieces on the Grand National that needed paint and I buffed through the paint of an edge of the bumper that I wanted to fix. I had back semigloss single stage paint from my Chevelle frame so I painted the pieces with that paint and clear coated with the 2k Spray Maxx. Painted layed out pretty well and the nozzle atomized far better than your typical hardware store spray bombs.

My only issue is the price but if only have a few small parts it doesn’t make sense to buy a quart of paint an hardener for such a small job.
