2K Spray Max spray paint

I found a small knick that needed filler so I went over to a body shop that I know the owner so he filled the knick found an air bubble from the 2nd body guy and fixed that then primed it, I brought it back to flow coat it and the can started spitting, I activated it last night and inst says use within 24 hrs, guess not this can and was hoping to 1200 sand and buff but now I see it will come out too shiney...think a new can is in order now? I didnt think to take a pic of how it left the body shop but owner ran his hands over it and said " Now its ready to paint"

Looks good. Spray maxx seems better in some places with a thicker build than regular rattle cans. I’ve also found it’s a good idea to have more than enough. Can has a nice spray pattern. Limited colors but I think shop paint shops can mix cans with hardener and color of choice. Paint does get harder/thicker fast once the activator is pressed. It was warm but mine wouldn’t spray good before the 24 hr mark was up.

I think that's what happened with my can, now wishing I'd of waited to use it today instead of last night but got in rush to get the dash back together and move on with the VA install, 2 quick leaps forward 5 Giant steps back

I’ve found if you can use paint remover, it works better and faster on parts than sanding. I use bins or bags to soak. I also do a lot of forwards and backwards.

He (body guy) just put some putty and primed it today, I'd hate for paint remover to get too deep, I'll wait and sand then if needed I'll buy another 2K spray can

I was going to ask about the pot life because I remember it being pretty long. I guess that means the stuff in the can remains good for a while but it wouldn’t be surprising if paint hardened in the nozzle that it would spray poorly long before the pot life was up.

I suppose there isn’t a way to take off the nozzle and put it in some thinner between sprays so that it doesn’t get dried paint in it? Or do the old trick of spraying it upside down so that the propellant clears out the nozzle?

Maybe if you activate it and plan to use some now and some later you can put it in the fridge to slow down the catalyst process.

Can you remove the nozzle on top of the spray can and soak it in thinner ? Then blow out with air.
Maybe there's some internal buildup causing it to spit ?

I've had mixed results with these cans. I've had the clear version stay workable for 4 days, where the epoxy hardened in the can in less than 12 hours. You can try put them in the freezer to slow the catalyst, but it doesnt always work.

The biggest downside of these products is the short pot life & the high cost per ounce.

I just ordered another can, I bought those 2 back in April and they're dated 7-21 and can says use within 3 months od can date, bought'em on Amazon and just ordered from the same place but I'm going to hang the door from a hanging wire for painting parts behind my garage then paint the steering column the same day, my sheet metal guy has been sick with Palls Halsey ? I think he called it, his R side of his face is drooping like he had a stroke, eye doesn't blink and Dr said it might not go away for 1 to 12 months, he's making my rad cover for free but has $$$ work to do so I said to put maker my part on the Back Back burner, he's got a pretty nice 55 Chevy with a 454 & 700r4 that the guy next shop over works on old cars putting VA a/c in...my friend said"Pls don't ask him to work on your car till mines done" LOL I said I think I'm the only one that's going to be F'n my car up from now on then I can only blame myself :D

I think it's Bells Palsey. Roger Maris had it
So did Ralph Kiner.

And my ex GF. Can be permanent or temporary, due to stress & or other factors.

I feel bad for him since he's trying to Not retire but actually closed his legal business for whatever reason but still trying to make a living and is a Fantastic Tin Knocker even coming to job sites when Im not 100% sure how to measure what he needs and his work is Top Notch and reasonable, great guy, here's another pic of GB door...Hideous lol Im laughing because I cant get over the other parts look great and this looks Terrible lol, I sprayed it laying flat and the rest was Horizontal so maybe that was the issue? Well the can was prob setting off too since I activated it about 14-15 hrs earlier

You’d think laying flat would be better to allow the paint lay out. Was it hot out?
It was pretty hot, around high 80's but being in direct sun light prob 100*+ maybe that was the problem? next Go-Round I'm hanging it and spraying early when it's 80*

Maybe others can chime in because I’m not the expert but I feel like when I’ve painted in sunlight on a hot day, it tends to dry spray a bit and leaves a lot of texture.
I also wonder if the “put on several light coats” applies less to catalyzed paint. Because it sets up pretty fast you gotta put it on a little heavier so it flows out and self levels. Just move the can a little more slowly.
Maybe someone else can chime me if I’m full of crap or not.

I went back to the Pro painter and showed him my Mess lol, he said I Should Not have had the door hot and in the sun while spraying it, sounds about right since the dash was in the shaded garage and maybe 80°, door was probably 120-130° when I sprayed it so going to Wet sand with 400 then the 600 he gave me and respray when I get the new can from Amazon ( said next Wed) Amazon surprises with faster deliv some times, Im pretty happy with the dash but Pass side against the jamb got missed but I dont think itll show with the door closed and dont want to chance respraying and really screw it up, might take a small brush and paint it since its not an In Your Face area

I started wet sanding with 400, Im thinking some more with the 400 since I can still see spots where the 15-16hr activated spray was spitting, small specks but Im worried itll show through so more 400 then 600 is my plan, Im not touching the dash

Metal temp ideally should be between 65 and 70, and never warm to the touch. Not sure if SprayMaxx has levels of hardener, ie, slow, med. fast. With the best of techniques and equipment everything must be ideal to give excellent results, so anything less is a crapshoot. SEM spray bomb gets their results with low solids, descent atomization and 1k product.

I sanded more with the 400, thinking one more time with 400 then 600, the heat/sun is where I screwed up so I'll be sure to paint early morning next time and hopefully it matches the dash alright

I’ve used multiple cans. Some from the paint supplier and some off Amazon. They all matched. Mine was also on bare metal.
