Fed UP! Modern cam blanks or oil? Another flat cam.

Giving up on FT for this engine.
Looked at the suggested site and all I could find were race cams.
This is just a work truck.
Oh, and that fancy coating from Comp. runs about $250.00!

I think the Pro Line in my friends 302 is made by Elgin, might be worth looking into if you really dont want to convert to a roller, I went with a Lunati roller cam and Howards Max Effort (Gaterman) lifters 2 years ago after reading about so many HFT cam/lifter failures

So, looks like I now have a few more parts to buy.
Cam button and bearing for behind the cam gear.

Also not really loving the contradictory info for roller cam break-in.
Some sources say none needed, others say basically the same as flat tappet.

Hoping the lifters include decent install directions as I am sure pre-load remains important.

No breakin necessary on a roller. Built two roller small blocks, both successful, both with somewhat mild numbers and mild spring pressure. Used valvoline vr1.
Performance is good, the noise I hate. It's fine in the cockpit, but hearing it outside the car always annoys me.

The hydraulic roller lifters adjust just like regular hydraulic lifters.
Zero lash and then tighten 1/2 turn.

Morel lifters? I've read a lot of bad things about the lower cost street series that Lunati, Comp and others call their own but are Morel, read anything from oil viscosity to fibers from the oil filter or dirt getting inside making them noisy, 1 of my cust. has a nice 76 Vette with a 550hp 467 and I noticed he stops smiling when he starts it up, same Lunati cam I'm using but he used Lunati (Morel) lifters, I'm using Howards Max Effort (Gatormen) and 175# closed 450# open springs pres

Sorry, can't answer that, the first build I bought the valvetrain through my engine builder, picking the cam specs and letting his judgement rule the lifters......12 years back. The next time I used some lifters that came with a used engine I had. That cam was a comp cam and I replaced it with a comp cam but used the same lifters. That's the noisiest of both sets. Maybe the reason they're so noisy is because they're comp stuff???

If that Comp Cam was a FT, I've heard they are noisy because Comp uses an opening ramp that's too aggressive.
The cam Richard ordered is close to stock so I don't see why it would be noisy ?

I'm speaking roller cams here. Side note.....I've only had one lobe go bad on a ft cam, and it was a clevite cam in a crate motor, broken in on a dyno by the vendor.

Okaaay, so good thing I have a lathe.
Seems I have to either modify my cam gear or $pend even more to replace the virtually new gear.
Hoping the lathe setup will not be difficult.

I ran into something similar, I have a new in the box Summit/TFS billet cam gear and dbl roller chain and 12 position lower gear for a BBC for Hyd flat tappet that I couldnt use with my roller cam, I think machining could've fixed it but too late now

Hey Richard did you ever get your truck engine together and running? Hopefully it’s running Great and problem free now

Got it going a while ago with a "Stock" grind this time.
Runs well but not so snappy as the first cam.
Gets decent mileage but I am disappointed that I have not been able to sell it at $6K despite almost $12K into it.
Have decided I do not need four trucks, I want to put the funds into the El Camino.

People are hurting, the economy is falling apart.
