Rust & White Vinegar

I put this original 68/69 washer bottle holder in a tub 23 hours ago, cheap and works pretty good, I pulled it out around the 18 hour mark and scratched paint & rust off with my thumb nail so going to let it sit till morning and hit it with a hand held wire brush, might use the wire wheel on the grinder if hand held doesn't do the job

Yes you do. CLR works pretty good.

I usually just use sandpaper and WD-40 to restore lightly rusted metal.
Also use latex gloves while doing that.

I use vinegar all the time for parts. Cheap and it works great. Patience is the key.

Had to use the wire wheel, cordless drill wire wheel and hand wire brush but its bare metal now, going to dunk and soak to worse of the 2 in the same tub of vinegar and see if its still potent enough to work

Might take a few days and make sure the vinegar is fresh, but it'll work.
