Hybrid Hot Water Heater

About a year ago I replaced my electric hot water heater with an AOSmith Hybrid 50 gallon hot water heater that I got on sale at Lowes at a cost (out the door) of $995.

About 1 month ago the new water heater would not go into efficiency mode (the heat pump wouldn't run), so I contacted AOSmith. They were prompt and sent me out a new control board and capacitor to replace inside.

Even after I replaced the parts, the issues continued, so I called them back and they promptly issued and RMA to bring it back to Lowes.

I bought it back to Lowes and Lowes had a new one waiting for me and even though the price had gone up, they still honored the sale price. Got the new WH home and installed it and all has been fine since.

I hope this doesn't become a regular occurrence, but AOSmith said they would honor their 10 year warranty for the full 10 years.

These type heaters are great when working properly but when there's an issue, and there will be sooner or later, what are the real savings if a Homeowner can't fix it themselves and has to pay someone to do the repair? IMO the more complicated something is the more prone to break downs and putting circuit boards in a water heater is getting to the point of building a complicated heater, I have a tankless gas WH also with circuit boards that I installed 5-6 yrs ago and so far only had to put 1/4" hardware screen on the exh. pipe to keep Lizards out from jamming the exh. blower wheel LOL, you ever notice how many people call them a Hot Water Heater when they're actually a Cold Water Heater LOL

I think the problem I had with the hybrid was when it was handled coming into the store. IMO it was low on Freon, so it wouldn't run right. I noticed a difference over a couple of months and pretty much figured there was a problem.

I have been looking at them; Home Despot has 50, 65 and 80 gallon models (Rheem).
I'll probably go with the 65 gallon.

I think the warranty is the same for Rheem (10 years). I know my electric bill dropped between $30 to $40 per month and what's even better, it doesn't draw too much power when heating the water when running on solar.

I bought a Rheem a few years ago when the Rental one came up and it was 12 years old
has been running great / Lots of Hot Water any time I want it
