Stock at Big Box Stores

I went last night to get a few pieces to finish up my wife's greenhouse, more specifically a couple of PVC electrical boxes, an extended weatherproof cover, and a ball valve hose spigot, and they had nothing. Nadda. Zip.

The stock is so depleted I couldn't get anything.

I'm going to go to a different store to see if I can secure the parts (local hardware store), but I don't hold much hope for that. Last time I had to order from amazon and the price was almost triple what it normally cost.

My wife has taken pictures while at Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and Meijer. Whole shelves are empty in some areas. It's getting scary.

My ac distributor is telling me if I want 15-16 SEER ac equipment it'll be at least 2+ months and those SEER ratings are what I sell the most of, getting another price increase in Jan of 10-12% across the board on everything needed to install ac systems in a home or comm. bus., $10 for a 10' 3/4" schedule 40 stick of PVC @ supply houses, $5.56 @ Home Depot, $6.50 @ Plumbing supply, this crap is crazy and I blame it on the Azzhole and crew occupying the White House

I'd seen Sam's and Wally World with shelves empty, but now alot of stores are getting bare shelves. I went to the local hardware store and no joy. They had nothing of what I needed (common electrical stuff).

I just got home from Lowes, went for an outdoor 50' green ext cord and the the shelf/spot for the On Sale 40' was bare so I asked if they had any more or maybe another location? Gal looked on her hand held thing and said "We have 400+ over in seasonal so I got one, too short but I'll make due but they seemed well stocked from the looks of things, Lso bought my wife a Light weight garden hose since she doesn't like the heavy ones I buy and anyone know how to get a stuck hose from a bibb after the 2 metals marry each other lol this is stuck on both ends and I've tried PB Blaster a week or 2 ago still stuck, using anti seize from now on, this is well water high in sulfur

It would sure be nice to see some manufacturing back is this country.
Same here. I’d be willing to pay more for an American made product. Not only would it likely be better made in most cases, the money would be going to our countrymen and it would reduce our dependence on offshore manufacturing and stop enriching those who hate us.

Boy the local Menards has tons of that stuff where I live.

This has been going on for many months now. Kitchen cabinets were like hens teeth a while back. Then pvc fittings and electrical items ect.
Remodeling has become hard when you need a part before you move on to the next task. Getting creative is getting old but i have to to keep moving. Sucks

I'm finding now that that I have to either find or order parts far in advance for the projects I'm doing. Just running to the store to get parts isn't working anymore.

I haven't had a lumber issue and have found that a 5lb box of decking screws with a torx head is $10 cheaper on Amazon than Lowes and arrives the next day. I also have kept a lot of stuff over the years and am finding I am digging into my stash more and more for the supplies to fix stuff. I also tend to preplan my next project while working on a current one.

Living in the country has always required me to be creative with purchases. What I am seeing is a Lowes in one town will not have something but one in another town does but this is really nothing new. Years ago when I finished my basement I had to run to multiple stores to find the quantity of some products I needed.

Yesterday I needed 6- 8" X 8" X 16" cement blocks so I looked online at my local Home Depot and Lowes that's across the street from HD, Lowes said 417 and HD showed 360ish, I went to HD and 0 so then across the street to Lowes and 0 so then to the next HD and 0, they were selling the blks @ $1.81 but had 0 then I found some at a local A/C supply....$3.98  but when you need some things what choice do you have?

I thought lumber prices had come down. Wrong !
I needed to insulate/fire-proof part of my basement for my solar equipment install.
I bought 1" R6 foam board , 3/4" plywood and hardi-backer board. Installed plywood over the foam board and hardi-backer over the plywood.
The plywood was $64/sheet ! 1" foam board was $25 ! I almost spent $500 covering a 12' long section of basement wall !

1.5 months ago 3/4 ply was $108 a sheet, but it hasn't come back down to normal prices (pre pandemic) as they used to cost $28 a sheet.

I keep hearing it's caused from supply and demand...? So who is demanding all these materials so much? IMHO it's the MFG CEO's seeing a huge profit margin calling/Blaming Covid

Plywood has always been expensive. Better material. Depends on where your at (climate) osb is way cheaper. When Covid hit osb was the same price as plywood. A lot of well build houses happening using plywood. Osb now has dropped but still not as cheap as 7.00 a sheet before Covid
