Holley Carb...

New Member
I recently installed a Holley carb and adjusted a float, fast idle, electric choke, fuel pressure to 6.5 lbs and then the idle. Lastly, I made an adjustment (see pic) that I shouldn't have, which I believe it was to the accelerator pump. I did my best to reset it back to the factory setting, but I'm not sure. I'd appreciate any help in dialing it back it.

I believe there should be the tiniest of a gap between that accelerator pump arm and the throttle linkage 0.015 I think. That gap gets taken up fast as you mash the gas pedal.
I should have said at rest with your foot off the gas pedal

For a street engine I always set the floats closer to the bottom of the site plug. On the accelerator pumps I just take out the slack between the pump lever and the arm, then I go to WOT on the bench and see if it will move a little more. The only pump cam I have ever had with no clearance was the orange cam put on backwards, why you ask? it's the one 30cc cam that pumps all 30cc's out of the squirter with the best pump shot ever.

Well here's a few of the tricks I use on the Holley accelerator pumps. 1st. I use the orange cam backwards to get the full 30cc pump shot (and it works) 2nd. I shim the pump arm spring up with about 5-6 washers to make the spring so stiff to keep that sucker from collapsing when nailing the gas. Must work, I hardly ever have any hesitation problems on my stuff. Now if you use a trans-brake you won't need all that kind of pump stuff.

I think I remember you claiming on the other site that the twisted torker bbc intake was leaving you a hesitation that couldn't be resolved?? I'm using one on my '67 396 with a vc 750 holley and a somewhat mild cam. For no other reason than I had it, but will gladly go back to a dual plane when I find one for reasonable money. I have the factory cast manifold, (spread bore) just have to check for hood clearance with the adapter plate.

I sold an Eddy BBC Performer 2.0 in like new condition to my next door neighbor for IIRC $75-$100 probably 7-8 yrs ago and I bet it’s still in his garage but he passed away last year and his widow is verifiably crazy lol
