Now being I am a "big" SBC BBC guy I have to LMAO on this "I need my LS engine to like a BBC SBC" crap. If you want to build a traditional SB or BBC then by all means DO THAT!. What a bunch of phony's, plus the fact that these look alike engines are 20K or more, WHAT??? for 20K I can get a pretty nice 632 BBC from GM that will kick butt these things.

The only thing I have with an LS is our 2010 Silverado our son drives. It has been a reliable engine but did take some money for the AFM/VVT delete once the special lifters in the AFM went out. I've worked on them but not a fan. They are super ugly and if I was in to them more, id want to dress it up as well. LS just isn't for me and I'll always be a SBC/BBC fan. Especially if you want more out of your SBC/BBC you now have the option of FI and Electronic timing curves on the fly.

Yes, that AFM is a constant thought in the back of my mind. As are all of the other required sensors n shit.

Yeah, I got no interest in any of that. Nothing against those that like it, it's just not for me. I don't want anything on my Chevelle that I gotta hook a computer or scanner to... I like to open the hood and see nothing but engine. No sensors, wires, or plastic garbage that I have to move out of the way to get at what I want to work on...

Luckily there are kits in abundance to get rid of AFM and VVT. It went out at 176,000mi. All in, it was about $2000 in parts, gaskets, caps, plugs. Upgraded and new many while it was apart like the lifters and cam. Separately and while they were out was having the 799 heads rebuilt, milled as much as was safe, about $700 for the complete rebuild and head work with larger valves. Put back together. We deleted many sensors. Then just reprogram and tune. record, and then custom tune. I didn't reuse anything but the stock heads. After all that was new coils, plugs and bigger injectors. Not looking at receipts, I'm guessing at about $3500 for everything.

And its still ugly. But we wanted it done right and incase I want to use it for something else later.

A shame GM doesn't stand behind their products. Especially after the tax payer bailed their asses out. They should lehally be forced to warranty these product defects. Thanks Obama..

Totally agree! I was a GM employee for 6 years or so and my stock was worth absolutely NOTHING when they went bankrupt. At least I have one or two of those original GM stock certificates, which might be worth something at some point!

I like the LS platform. I think they are more aesthetically pleasing. I also like my car to drive, handle better then it did in the 60’s and 70’s. That’s what’s great about hotroding we are all different.
