Tonights project, Rebuild a Weber 45 DCOE, Datsun 1600 T Bucket.

Rebuilding the Weber for my neighbors Datsun 1600 engined T Bucket.
It's his economy car.
New carb cleaner is not as fast as the older stuff.
Should run a lot better without 1/4" of sludge in the fuel bowl.
 
Those webers are so responsive. I'm looking to upgrade my 230-6 with a weber 32-36. Fun carbs.

Someone has let water sit in this one.
Accelerator pump piston is siezed in the body.
Carb cleaner is not clearing all of the passages.
I may have to rebuild my spare and take his as a core.
Having to drill out and replace soft plugs is more than I expected.
 
He now admits the car sat ten years without being prepped.
Bottom of the carb is full of insoluble crud.
Looks like old gasket sealer but is really varnish from evaporated gas.
So I will have to rebuild my "Spare" for him and hope to salvage his later.
 
Nothing can be simple.
My spare 45 DCOE came from an Austin Healey Sprite race car.
You know amateur racers, anything to save a buck.
Having a hard time getting the venturies out.
Seems they used 40mm parts and wrapped them with masking tape to take up the difference for 45mm. :(
There may also be an issue of differing generations but I will not know for certain until I get both completely apart.
Vintage parts are FUN!
 
No, Mikuni parts are much harder to get even if one could be found.

I did get this one done a couple of hours ago.
Found a reference for initial jetting in one of my Weber books and was able to set that up since I had parts from two carbs.
Weber float level is critical, that is now correct.
Old carb was missing some parts and others seized up so had no accelerator pump.
Even if the jetting is a little off it should run much better.
From there I can make adjustments.
One of the great things about the DCOE's and IDF's is that jetting can be changed without having to pull the carb apart.
At 4,000' elevation I do expect to be making some changes.

I've never had a Weber carb but knew a few guys that had them on stroked Harleys, one had dual Webers on a 120ish cube, those guys really liked them
