Chevellabration Weekend Now

Went every year from '99 to '12, except '10. CB was some of the best times of my adult life. Lifelong friends were made, foolishness indulged in, beer and cigars and Waffle House food consumed, all surrounded by the Super Bowl of Chevelle shows. After a day there, you forgot everything about your life outside of the show. Some complained that it was always the same, that was its charm to me. I did not agree with Chuck's reasoning for shutting it down when he did, but time has proven him right.
What I don't understand, given those reasons, is how a single marque show like the Buick deal in Bowling Green continues to prosper. It has all the same attractions as CB did.

Derek, hows the Northern Ohio Chevelle Club's show turnouts going?
I went in 2009 and 2019
I think there were ~300 cars in 2019.

There were 100+ '69s present as Dan Vasic organized getting as many as possible there for the 50th Anniversary for the best year of Chevelle. ;)

Many of us attended ACES Chevellabration on this weekend every year starting in 1997. Sadly it ended in 2012. It was held in Goodlettsville, TN (suburb of Nashville) and hosted anywhere from approximately 200 to over 400 Chevelles for a 5 day car show/dragrace/autocross/party. It was a lot of fun and I miss it dearly.

we went from 2005-2009. We bought a new house in 2010 and we didn’t sell the old one until fall 2011. We didn’t have the money since we were paying on two houses, so we didn’t go. We were about to start back when it was cancelled.

I remember when you guys came down that first year. I felt sorta bad watching you all pile into that tiny Camaro while we had a minivan. But honestly, we did not have any extra room at all. That was the trip I picked up a bunch of parts from GU and we bought that Cozy Coupe at a garage sale. We just put that on the curb a couple years ago. Well loved by two kids.

We went to 2010 and 2012. My kids had a great time there with the kiddie events, my daughter made friends with another girl. The Jambalaya made by the Louisiana Club was awesome.

Funny, I bought my Excursion and car hauler to haul my car and family to those shows, Excursion came with a stipulation, one day she would own a travel trailer for it to pull.

That's why I figure a committee is the only way to go.

All the work on the shoulders of one person is too much (unless of course you don't have a job and everyday is open and free).
I agree whole-heartedly. From 1999 to 2004 (as I recall..may have been 2000 the first year), I organized a BMW 2002 Gathering called Mid-Atlantik '02 Fest in Virginia (Shenandoah State Park). It was a ton of work, and I remember looking at my wife at the end of the first gathering and we were both SO TIRED!..but it was a good tired. Cars came from everywhere...I don't remember the exact amount but it was likely close to 100 cars! I had signs, a huge banner, t-shirts, voting on the cars with awards given, door prizes from some great event sponsers, catered food, and on and on! I still can't believe I did it all by myself, but with some welcome help from fellow vintage 2002 owners and friends. I'd love to see a Chevelle Gathering, but I need a car first! LOL!

I went every year from 2002-2012 less 2011 due to a family emergency. There are still several Chevelle shows around the country to support. That said, the lack of a national Chevelle organization has been on a lot of people's minds the last 10 years. I was one of the ones Chuck approached about taking it over. At the time, it simply wasn't something I could do. Even now, there is no way I would be able to deal with such an endeavor.

Keep in mind, there is a lot, and I mean A LOT more to this than some may think. There needs to be an entity formed to handle money be it an LLC, 501C3, not for profit, etc. It is an expensive thing to do as well. We just had our regional in Maryland last weekend. The cost for that was in the $8000-$8500 range. A national event will easily cost $20,000 to do. You have to negotiate contracts with vendors, venue, town/municipality, hotels, food, t shirts, trophies, etc. You have to advertise heavily which costs money. You have to solicit major sponsors. You have to have people present in the area you are going to utilize to handle things there when needed. You have to be business minded to pull this off. Believe me, it is not all glamour behind the scenes, I am speaking from experience as I have been the show organizer for the Maryland Event for the last 11 years.

Having adequate volunteers is another bridge to cross. Many start off with well intentions to help, but can quickly get distracted leaving you scrambling unnecessarily. That was the demise of the CanAm club

We did have a great turnout given the inflation problems with fuel, lodging, and food with 140 registered cars. I gave myself heat exhaustion Saturday afternoon and am still trying to recover from those 3 days.

I wanted to go to MD this year as it’s only about 1.25 hrs away, but I was in the midst of rebuilding my deck and I got into a major undertaking to say the least! Hopefully next year though! The setting looks wonderful! Please post up to YouTube! 🙏

I attended EVERY Chevellabration from '01 to '12.
For those who attended, you know what it was like (unbelievably great!).
For the Chevelle lovers who never attended Chevellabration, I cannot express how much you would have loved to be there.
I've said this before, I'll repeat it. Of all the car events and activities I've ever participated in, the Chevelle group of folks is hands down, THE BEST!!!!!!!!!
I have a Corvette, and the Corvette community is big-------------------BUT THEY JUST DO NOT HOLD A CANDLE TO THE GREAT COMMUNITY OF CHEVELLE FOLKS!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!
I miss whole heartedly miss Chevellabration and all the friends I made!

Just a few (very few) reminders.

Standing next to the fence is Tommy from Finland, he made 2 CBs. And Liam (with the camera) from Dublin, Ireland, he made several CBs.

Good times at the end of the day in the motel parking lot.

EVERYONE remembers the parking lot excitement at CB09, an under the influence young lady ran into a police car, that was a no-no.

Blimp over CB09

Pulling out of the drive, headed to CB08.

Tom, I will never forget how you helped me when my son was dehydrated and upchucked on the hotel steps (CB10 or CB12). By the time I got him upstairs and in the room and back down to clean it up, you had already hosed it down. Thank You!

Like I said, after all the car events and groups I've been involved with over MANY years, the Chevelle community is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom, can we get the A26 Updates here also? I always enjoy them.

The latest issue we have been dealing with is the left auxiliary fuel bladder.
Short version.
These planes had self sealing bladders inside the fuel cells in the wings (2 main-300gal and 2 auxiliary-100gal).
When I was working at Tinker AFB, I took the left aux bladder to the bladder shop, they serviced it and pronounced it good to go.
Put it in and gas gushed out!
We had one more which LOOKED usable. Cleaned it up, swapped all the fittings from the other bladder, put it in, added 6gal and it leaked.
From what we diagnosed, it was leaking around one of the fittings or the pump.
Last week, we removed all the safety wire, re-torqued EVERY bolt attaching ANYTHING to the bladder, safety wired everything again and wend home.
Today, we put in 3gal and checked EVERYTHING. No leaks. Put in 5gal, checked, no leaks, Put in 10gal, checked, no leaks. Put in 20gal, then 30gal, then 50gal, then 75gal-------------still no leaks. So we topped it off at 93gal, NO LEAKS. so now we have 4 sealed blsadders, 800 gal.
We still have 2 inspections to accomplish, then we are good to fly again.
