Auto transporter

Anyone have a recommendation? Looking to ship a C10 from the midwest to the west coast. Thanks

I've always used the below. Used them every time I've moved cars, truck, tractors, heavy equipment. They are a broker. Give them year, make, model, length, width, weight, Drives (?) .

Since they are a broker, they post it and how fast you want it shipped. Ive always said a few weeks but everything was picked up within days. They only used license and insured. You can stipulate covered or uncovered, first available, etc. When I shipped the Chevelle from last duty station, they called and asked if open flat bed was ok. I asked if there would be something blocking the wind in the front and they said the trailer had a 8x8 Conex box in front. I didnt want bugs and rocks to hit the car. It arrived in Perfect condition.

They will call you when an open space or trailer is availible. Usually the same day the driver wants to pick it up because they have an unpaid spot. You can ask the prce and if its more than you want to pay, you can pass and wait for the next. Though they will usually call back and say the driver will do it for less. He may have an open spot, passing through the pick-up area and is just losing money on that spot Ifyou dont take it.

Ms. Diane is great to work with as well.

It’s on the way. After hemming and hawing I finally went with Montway transporters. Considering the truck is in the upper peninsula of Michigan (very remote) it didn’t take too long for them to arrange a pickup. Should be here in a few days.

About how much do the transporters charge per mile? I'm sure it varies by the size of vehicle.

Its up to the driver usually. And if owned by a Corp. they may have a min per mile. If owner / operator, it also depends on the load. If they have an open position on the trailer, that's waisted money. Also depends on if you went directly to a driver or going through a Freight Broker as they take a percentage.
Some will take the bare minimum just to fill that spot. Especially if its on the way to the next location and a load that is waiting. This is all why I prefer using a broker. Plus its posted nationally. I state a load that is ready for pickup at a specific time, with no desired time line. Also what type of trailer I prefer. 90 percent of the time the load is picked up within the week. I've never had one waiting for pickup longer than two weeks. The broker will call and say someone is willing to pick it up and deliver in XX days for $ XXXX amount of money. I ask how soon and the trailer load. If they say one spot available and is in the area, I automatically know is an 'opportunity load' and I haggle the price. They will go back and forth between me and the driver until a price is agreed. If no price I can decline and wait for the next driver to call them. Every time I've said no thank you, the driver has agreed on a reasonable price. Especially if they have one spot open. They are already going my way if they are calling. Which means If they don't take a price we agree on, that number is $0 for them and they drive with an empty spot.

Thats the basics.
