What is your goto spray bomb for under hood black?

Mine used to be “semi flat” Krylon. Most of the stores around me sell Rustoleum. Definitely don’t want too glossy or too flat.

Thanks.

Go to the local auto body supplier and get a spray can of Satin Black with the Activator button on the bottom for the hardener, makes a durable finish and about $20-$25 but has the hardener in it but I also like Rustoleum Pro Satin & Krylon Satin blacks

Thanks. I always assumed the satin was too flat. I’ll check it out.
John I've been thinking maybe Satin would be too flat, my under hood was painted Summit Chassis black and has more of a correct shine to it than my dash it's painted with the 2K with activator on bottom spray bomb, I don't think Summit Chassis black is either a Satin or Semi Gloss but I could be wrong, probably wouldn't hurt to call Summit and ask?

I generally use "Hot Rod Black" in a paint gun, but have done some touch-up after welding on the frame (coilover mounts) with Satin Black Rustoleum. It's held up surprisingly well.

I have a 2k semigloss black that I think looks right for big things. I just hate to pull out a paint gun for nuts and bolts and little brackets etc.

I am going to repaint my inner fenders and under hood this summer as whoever painted it before used gloss and it looks horrible! I will try a few sample spray shots on the fenders before choosing, but I’m leaning toward Eastwood’s Underhood Black.

I use Rustoleum Satin Black or Low Gloss black, mix in a reducer and activator and spray it from a gun. If I were going to use an aerosol can, Duplicolor 1603. One thing to keep in mind is that if you try to put Rustoleum over any other coating, it WILL react and lift.

I may be the odd man out.
Never liked or understood black engine compartments.
Since I am making no effort at all to be original I will probably do mine in silver or even light grey.
My front end is fiberglass and the inside is not smooth, so trunk liner spatter paint is another option.
I want to be able to SEE what I am doing and black just seems to suck away all the light.
My 02¢

What I use. I like the spray pattern and how it applies. Plus the 15 min dry time, though I let it sit for an hour.

Like others, I like Satin Black but find cleaning or wiping down the engine compartment doesn't get everything looking clean. It doesn't wipe well. I have since moved to semi-gloss and it cleans better.

Spray in stages.
