Carrier 3 ton air handler question

My attic air handler - Carrier FB4C 2.5 ton , which has no electric emergency heat, is wired with 6/2 NM-B cable with a 60 amp breaker ?
This seems like way overkill ? Shouldn't this be a 30 amp breaker ?
Was this installed with the thought of adding electric heat later ?

My outside 2.5 ton heat pump condenser has #10 wire and a 30 amp breaker.

I am going to connect the air handler to the solar system and wonder if I need to use such large wiring ?

Look at the label on the front panel of the air handler it will show what breaker size needed for No Aux heat kit and also what’s needed for 5-7or8-10 KW it probably only needs 15 amp 230 volt, Edit if the AH is hard to get to for reading the label if you know model number you can Google specs 🙂

Also if there’s ever a blower motor failure the 60 amp breaker won’t trip, fire hazard PS I’ve never understood why package units require a separate circuit breaker & wire for the heater kit when they’re outside a home but an indoor air handler only needs the wire and breaker sized to the heat kit

Yep 15 amp max 🙂 Edit Beth I’d get a 10 KW heat kit for defrost mode under 34 outside temp and back up if heat pump breaks

I found this at the very end of the performance data brochure :

Mine is the FB4CNF030 , 3rd from top
You nailed it ! A 15 amp breaker is all this needs. That saves me at least $100 in wiring and will stop a fire hazard. THANKS !

In the mid 80’s I spoke up to an electrical inspector on a large room addition Rough In, he was telling me I was getting Red Tagged for not having a 3 wire plus ground (10/3) to a standard Water Heater, I did tell him it wasn’t needed since it had No 110 volt controls or a Light Bulb 😁 He was Wrong 😁 a newer clothes dryer that’s 230 volts does need a Neutral for interior light and possibly any 120 volt controls and any room addition or new build has to have 10/3 W grnd wire and 4 prong outlet rated 30 amp Edit for Clothes Dryer
