Sail Panels

Chevelle_Nut

Shop Foreman
I have had new sail panels for the gold Chevelle for several years, decided to put them in today. The ones they are replacing started to bubble and PUI sent me replacements. Not a fun job, tight in the back seat also being a repop part it doesn't fit just right.

You may have issues with the repop sails, I now make my own. I take 1/16" frp, scuff it and wrap using Welwood Landau adhesive. Same for the package tray but use a much thicker frp, 1/8". I had the repop sails in my '69 blister after just a couple seasons, and the package tray only lasted 1.

Yeah, stuff is crap now.

The bubbling has been a problem with sail panels for years. They use cheap contact cement on them.

My TMI sail panels were put in a cpl yrs ago I'll take a look at them today, I don't remember what brand package tray is but I'll post a cpl pics, seems like everything's made Cheap as possible but you pay for Premium

I like the process that you're describing but can you tell me what the "frp" that you're using as a base is ???
Also the Wellwood Landau adhesive is that the same as their WW Contact adhesive ???

Landau adhesive is stronger imo, than contact adhesive and it's heat resistant, so it can be used on vinyl tops. Upholstery shops use this exclusively. It's the ONLY glue to use, and it's only available in gallon or new to the market is an aerosol....but it's diluted. Go to your favorite upholstery shop and bring a container to be filled from their supply and they'll likely only charge you a few bucks. FRP is fiberglass reinforced plastic, available at HD or Lowes.

I forgot about this thread and at our Chevelle now, I’ll take a few pics if it’ll help, I noticed I still need to paint the lower molding black, never ends lol
