It shifted fine, so I got on it. It was fine. Once I turned onto Main Street, I was in second gear and wound it out. It shifter into third fine, then nothing - no forward gears, no reverse. They had me check to see if it was ingesting fluid after startup and the level on the dipstick barely went down. They are thinking that the dimensions/clearances between the converter hub and the pump gear are off, so the converter ended up riding on top of the gear tabs and sheared them. I personally think that when they examined it after I broke it, they missed something on one half of the pump housing, and that is what led to this.
I can't even take it out until after tomorrow, as the city is coming through on a 'neighborhood inspection' to look for code violations (which includes disabled vehicles). They were going to call a shop closer to me to see if they could get me in to look at it for them. I have AAA, so I can have it towed to them either way. I just got my driveshaft back on Monday (I had to have it rebalanced with the new slip yoke - which moves very freely now, unlike it did before). There was still a vibration, which I think was coming from the transmission.
It is all very frustrating. My experience with transmissions over the years has not been great. I think that a company like ZF needs to build a 7 or 8 speed DCT with interchangeable bell housings (GM, Ford, Chrysler, AMC) to fit old muscle cars. Super strong, fast shifts, reliability. I would love to have one in my car.
