2024 Escalade

Our girl that lives about an hour away bought a new 2024 Caddy Escalade, only had 11 miles on it when they picked it up last week, she sent her mom a Snap Chat of the dash creaking and snapping when she touches it just about anywhere, she’s taking it back to the dealer in Miami to have them do something but I’m guessing it’s just poor quality plastic parts clipped together and doubt they can do anything, $120+K for a car is ridiculous IMHO anyway but it’s what she wanted, at first I thought the Chat was from our other girl that bought a new Jeep a cpl yrs ago, I was going to say that’s normal with a Dodge product 🤣

Crazy a car = almost house price.

New car quality is going down on all manufacturers.

When we bought Lisa's Escape, we had it about 2 weeks and Lisa kept noticing a rattle under the passenger side. She took it into the dealer and the dealer said there was nothing wrong and gave it back to her. Lisa drives home and still hears the sound. She drives back to the dealer and says the sound is still there and the service manager says it's fine and not to worry about it, all cars make creaks and groans. Lisa says we didn't pay $28k for creaks and groans so they need to fix it. The service manager rolls his eyes at Lisa and Lisa walks out pissed off. Well, I'm sure you can all guess what happened next........ I get home from a client's site, Lisa tells me what happened, I tell her to make dinner and I'll be right back, but she knows me all too well and she says she's knows where I'm going and what I'm doing and she's not letting me kill the guy or get arrested, so she gets in the escape with me and we go back to the dealer. The same service manager is standing there, sees Lisa and starts to walk away when I yell out (as he's walking away), take another step and I'll break your fucking legs. Mind you this was with a room full of other people and some dropping off their cars for service. He stops, turns around and addresses me saying, "Are you threatening me?, and I respond, No, I'm promising you. You'd better get on the phone and get the general manager back here now or I'm going to shove this car up your ass. He calls the general manager and he comes back like all official and master of his domain and I rip into him telling him the whole story and how he disrespected my wife all the while trying to calm me down and I tell him if I ever see that cocksucker again, I'll punch his fucking lights out. The general manager apologized and told the service manager to go home. Then he calls a mechanic to come out and check Lisa's Escape out, he comes back 5 minutes later and says I know what the problem is I have to check if we have the part in stock. Comes back 5 minutes later and says they had to order the part and explains debris got in between the plastic cover on the underneath passenger side and when driving down the road wind makes it swirl in between the metal floor and the plastic cover and Ford calls them single use covers so they ordered one. General manager apologizes again for the service managers behavior and says he will be dealt with accordingly and from now on if we have any problems to contact the general manager on his cell phone.

Lisa's Escape was fixed the following week and Lisa didn't see that service manager, but everyone knew who she was and they acted accordingly and with respect.

It boggles my might that people are willing to buy luxury cars. You can get really nice, comfortable, reliable cars with good performance for relatively reasonable prices. But I just don’t value luxury and the appearance of being cool or rich.
I drove my x's Cordoba on occasion and loved it for the luxurious leather, super quiet interior, and floaty road feel. It got old real fast, but every few months was just about right 👍. I knew then I could never drive a "road" car long term.

That’s even crazier. Driving a nice car is Wisconsin, Michigan winters where the road salt eats of the body panels within a few years.

Older vehicles are all over the place in Central NC being used as daily drivers, very little rust. The sun bleaches the paint and plastic parts get brittle but fortunately frames and panels stay in good shape.

I couldn't imagine dealing with rusty bolts all of the time.

Cars die too early in the salty North
Didn't get rid of the Colorado because of rust, didn't like it & if it sat for a few days the battery would be dead & the dealer said what they always say, nothing wrong.
After we traded it spent a lot of time close to their shop door.
