Cale's 55 Chevy

You couldn't have a better car to learn and work on. The '55 Chevy is built like a "tank". My first car was a '55 Chevy (when I grew up in South Florida) and I learned much on that car including pulling the 235 6-banger and installing a brand new 327 when I was 15! Did it all by myself....dropped the fenders and made an a-frame to handle the engines. A girl friend of my Sister had a boyfriend (who she eventually married) and he tutored me some with the build. He had a '57 Vette, then a new '67 GTO. I always wanted to do sheet metal work, but never did. I just love '55's & '56's, as my family car growing up was a torquoise & white '56 Bel Air (2 Door).

I'll have to get a pic of my friend/shop co-owner where my Chevelle got the body work finished then we swapped the 454 for the 489 there, he has a restored (right before my car ) 56 BelAir the same colors as your old car

I was planning to do a full repaint on mine and make it really nice and pretty, shoot his flat black, and use all my leftover parts on his to make it complete... Somehow that plan changed to leaving mine in weathered old paint, fixing his the right way, and putting all the shiny new parts on his car.

I'm going to "loan" him the 250hp 350 that was original in my '69 Malibu, the HD 3spd that is original in my '69 SS396 Chevelle, and the stock rear end that's currently in my '55.

How old is Cale? Is he going to be driving it soon? Not sure you'll get your 350 back in one piece.... ;)

What else does it need?
Lots of body work, complete drivetrain, all wiring, suspension rebuild, brakes, etc...

It's pretty much a full restoration, but trying to do it on a budget and do as much of it ourselves so he has some skin in the game. I *could* pay for it all, but I want him to work for it, stay within his means, and learn how to do the work... also, my projects occasionally have to take priority. :)

You're a good Man Derek. You're a good Dad teaching him how to be responsible and to be a man.

It would be cool if he could drive it on his last day of school at least. Hope he can keep at it.

Love 55s.... I remember I had a chance to buy a tubbed ex drag car with no motor/tranny for $1500 about 25 years ago, and passed it up. I still kick myself for that.
