Not sure how to address this one, I'll let you guys and gal add your thoughts, and please do. I'm going through some stuff as all of us are, and just needed something to bury myself into without much expectations, just low level stress relief. Well, it turned out that every time I start into this project I receive something in return, a draw back to what started my love for the musclecar. Without getting into the psycho babble or cliches that are ride along with this type of stuff....I'm just letting it hang out here. This has been somewhat of a purpose build, a way to transport a couple bikes to a remote area and do some adventure riding without travelling the highway much. I couldn't bring myself to abandon anything for days on end that had any value, so I settled on this. One look at this parked in a remote area will make someone think twice about who's lurking. Anyway, I bought it for $1900 and it had a bit of body rust...the base of the windshield was gone, the pass. side a pillar was rotted, a few holes in the floor, and the lower fenders and lower quarters. All that got patches, lapped, and treated with por15, then a healthy coat of filler to hide the ugly. Think "get er done"....and putting all the critics at bay. Before you cring, just know the structure is sound, all the critical components are new, the drivetrain will be sound, and I'm building it to travel long trips without hickups. It is an original 396 elky, which only 2500 or so were built, so it's getting the engine that was in the '69 convertible, a rebuilt '67 Impala motor. I also bought a new gas tank, sender, fuel line, brake lines, booster, master, rag joint, springs and shocks. Am in the process of repacking front bearings and reassembling the drum brakes. It's a turd, but it's giving me a great deal of cynical satifaction, for some odd reason. Oh, and all the bodywork was from a DA, no longboard.....and a quart of rustoleum satin black mixed 50% with flat black. Looks sinister, and the closer you get, it either turns ugly, or cool, I've had both reactions. I'd love to get honest reactions to this. Knowing life is short, this just seemed right for the times.
