Lock 'em up!

I was watching a cop show where they took a car left it sitting open with the keys in the car.It was a set up where they remotely shut down and locked the car up so the car thief couldn't get out. This was in Newark NJ and it was just a DD type car and not a collector car but still it's car theft.
So one thief takes the bait and they arrest him but get this because he didn't have any outstanding warrants all they did was give him a ticket then released him on his own recognizance. They let him walk because they consider car theft a nuisance crime.
Yeah right a nuisance crime ! Someone invests 40K of their retirement in their car and its a fucking nuisance !???? To who ? the fucking scumbag who was given a ticket and only has to show up in court ? Or the guy who's car has disappeared never to be seen again. The scumbag was just sitting there joking with the cops and never even saw any bars anywhere before someone came and got him.
The only thing we can do is get good car insurance if you're going to leave your car anywhere near where it can be stolen.

Leaving the keys in the ignition leads to Entrapment issues.
Would the thief have tried to steal the car if it did not appear so easy?
As I recall when the cops did press charges courts threw them out as Entrapment.
So the set-up needs to more carefully thought out.

If I ever win the lottery, I'm spending my free time making thieves disappear.
It may be bait/entrapment, but the cops and courts won't be involved at all. ;)

they left the keys in the car but not in the ignition. It was a while ago but to the best of my remembering the keys were left on the seats or between the two seats.
