Comfort grip wheel

How does someone tell if the comfort grip steering wheel on your car is real or repro?

I'm not sure to be honest, but the first place I'd look is for GM part numbers. Not 100% sure, but unless the repo manufacturer was licensed by GM to reproduce it, it typically won't have the same part number.

If it's the one with the stainless rim showing through the outer grip, post a pic of the backside. The injection mold has a couple small rectangular divits I believe. Been some years since I've sold the one I had but your pics will jog my memory.

I think an original wheel is supposed to feel more like a hard rubber than hard plastic like the repros do. My car came with one that I think is an original but I changed it out for a smaller diameter wheel with a less of a dish for more belly room. The wheel was sticky like most original wheels become over the years. I just took it out of the box a few weeks ago and the rim is totally covered with a thick sticky orangey colored substance that oozes out of them when the become old.

And that crap is almost impossible to get off. Last time took me hours to clean the wheel off, then I had it wrapped in leather (don't have the car anymore, but it came out nice).

Mine was sticky, I managed to clean it.

There is a stamp on the back, it is a B.
